I was wondering how much the type of speaker cab you have affects the sound of your amp? Does it sound better if you match the same brand of head to the same brand of speaker? Cheers

1. Lots. You have bassy speakers, middy speakers, trebly speakers, gainy speakers, clean speakers and everything in between

2. Sometimes, but generally it doesn't matter.

There are hundreds of different kinds of speakers. Like pickups, guitar amps, etc...they can either be cheap, decent, or good. It just depends on the speaker model and size of the speaker (8'', 10'', 12'', etc)

As far as the actual cab goes, different quality woods will sound either better or worse. For example, the Orange PPC 1x12, 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets all have Vintage 30 speakers, but are also very thick and well built with high quality wood. Because of this, they will sound better than a cheaper cab even with the same Vintage 30 speakers.

You can't go wrong with Vintage 30s and decent cab construction IMO.

So are there rules as to what speakers sound good in what kinds of wood? And any suggestions for a bassy, gainy kind of speaker, with a chunky distorted and clean sound, something witha bit of clarity? Bidgets around $500AU

You'll be lucky to get something for that much. Laney cabs are really good, and probably the only thing close to your price range. Otherwise search for a used Marshall 1960A

Yeah looks good. The stock speakers should be G12-75T. So as long as they're stock they'll be fine
