So, my Laney VC30's reverb tank appears to be duff, but I'm confused:

When I tap it/shake it, you can hear that classic spring rattle through the amp. But when I try to put the effect level/reverb up, nothing happens. Which seems contradictory to me.... I've taken it apart, and couldn't see anything immediately wrong with it, although I was in a hurry at the time.

Any ideas?

Have a look inside the tank. Reverb springs break where they attach to the magnet. You can still have one attached spring but the thing won't work. You can't fix it, you just replace the tank. You can't tell until you look.

Something very similar has happened to my VC30....I think it occurred on the way home from a gig after getting knocked about by speedbumps.

Thanks, I'll have a better poke about tomorrow.
