I've been working on two-hand tapping similar to Animals As Leaders' "CAFO" or just about anything else in that vein. Especially on the E,A,D and G strings there is an annoying 'donk' kind of sound as the string makes impact with the frets. Not so much during traditional shred tapping lick-type thing, but more when I just hammer on to the string. Tapping more softly eliminates most of the noise, but the notes become almost inaudible.

I probably wouldn't have asked if it was anything else, as I understand that practice is usually the cure-all for most techniques. I'm just not really sure solid practice is the key to this one so much as maybe I'm missing something. Any help?
