So I'm after a Gibson SG, I already have a Tony Iommi SG, and a Gibson LP Studio - I was orignally drawn to the 60's tribute for the P90's to give my tone a bit of variety as my other guitars have humbuckers - but now I'm thinking I could get a used SG Standard for roughly the same price? I'm into bands such as Led Zep, GN'R, Velvet Revolver, AC/DC, Aerosmith etc.

Any opinions?

You have the Tony Iommi SG, why get another SG? You may want to use the money to upgrade your amp, effects, or buy a totally different guitar like a Strat.

Have you played a Yamaha SG? If so, do they live up to the hype? I'm kinda interested.

That Yamaha looks really cool. Doesn't Aaron Barrett play one? I think I saw him with one in the music video for Beer.

no.

the hype doesn't begin to come close to the awesomeness of the Yamaha SG.

but it's more of a Les Paul Standard clone than a SG. it's shaped similarly to an SG but it's build is almost identical to a Les Paul Standard.

the neck is thinner than any Les Paul i've played, that's the big difference play wise.

Cool, I'm gonna keep an eye out!

Yeah there is a reason the top end Yamaha SGs make silly money, they are better than you could ever imagine,

though Greg is correct as usual, the SG is closer to an LP than Gibson SG.

If you want p-90 tone get the tribute. I love my les paul tribute. Feels really solidly built and well put toghether perhaps the sg's are similar? If you really do feel more set on HB then get the Yamaha. My opinions anywho. I would get the tribute cause p-90's are a very versatile yet unique pickup.
