Hey all,
I'm looking for some darker/haunting or even sad fingerpicking songs to play. Something more mellow like Opeth or "Chapter VII" by Estatic Fear would be awesome
Any suggestions?

'To Dust', by Mazzy Star.

it's good, but really repetitive and not much of a challenge

Yup. Easy one to add to your repertoire, especially if you can sing along!

As far as sad is concerned, maybe try some traditional stuff? O'Carolan's The Lament of Owen O'Neill is good and quite sad. Generally, traditional laments work really well as a solo guitar piece.

Also, if you can find a good arrangement, 'Gently, Johnny' is -awesome-. The arrangement used in The Wicker Man soundtrack is particularly good!

Wow! The track you, Retzell, linked was amazing!

I can only think of two tunes at the moment. First one is Crimson Towers by Dissection which to me reminds me of some sort of classical/baroque guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITxcCylxLSY

The other one is a tune written by Ennio Morricone called Ecstasy of Gold that I'm sure you've heard before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G6XcF2-gPY

None of them are difficult to play, but they're beautiful and sort of "sad".

That "beautiful sort of 'sad'" is exactly what i'm looking for. thank you!

Always and Never by Coheed and Cambria. It's hauntingly beautiful.
G(g)od was like: "Make you an ark of gopher wood; rooms shall you make in the ark, and shall pitch it within and without with pitch."

And i was like: "What's gopher wood?"

You are the man, beab. I have been looking for that song "Fade into you" by Mozzy Star forever now. I didn't know any of the words so i couldn't look it up, only the melody. I looked up "To Dust", just to check out the song and ended up hitting some other related videos and got it.

The Drapery Falls - Opeth?
Nothing Else Matters, maybe. There's always José's arrangement of 'Heartbeats'.
