Not sure if this is the right spot for this. There are a few records I've come across in the last few years that are mostly "punkish" that have this tone that I've really fallin' in love with and would love to get something if not like it very close. I think its more of an amp/pedal thing than guitar. I have no idea how to describe it either, I would say gritty but also heavy and a bit hollow? I don't know if that makes any sense. Here are some songs that have what I'm talking about. Any ideas or suggestion are welcome.

Same tone but slightly heavier, more bass?mid?

Sounds like either a marshall or a ds-1 in front of a marshall to me. I wouldn't doubt that there's a ton of post-micing tone-****ery going on here either. Normally I would never recommend a Line 6 to anyone but the style of music that you linked to generally needs a couple of different sounds on the fly and it doesn't exactly attract tone snobs.

And this should probably be in Gear and Accesories or at least Electric Guitar.

I was in a nu-metal band when I was 15. I hated the top 3 strings (G,B, and E). I wondered why guitars even had them.
