Yes, another one of these threads by a teenager who doesn't know what to get.

So, I've been playing guitar for about 7 and a half years, and keyboards and drums for about a year and a half each, and I'm going to take on playing the bass now. So I've got about a $1,000 budget, and I am looking to preferably get a 6 string bass, but I have no idea what to get. Although I have been looking at an ESP LTD B206SM and an Ibanez Gio GSR206. I play everywhere from Death Cab for Cutie to Lamb of God, so I need a bass and bass amp that will allow me to play nearly anything. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

6 strings have always seemed excessive on basses... to each their own.

The LTD bass and an Acoustic B200 amplifier should suit your needs well.

A fretless six string would be a challenge; particularly for someone who has not been playing the bass for very long. That is a neat bass, though.

With a $1000 budget I'd skip the GSR206 and hop right on up to an SR506. Pair that up with a nice Acoustic B200 or Peavey TKO 115 and you'd be set.
