Hi, what is an ideal gauge for tuning to either d standard or c# standard (occasionally in drop c or drop b), on a 25.5" scale guitar?

I have looked at a set of heavy elixirs (12-52), but it has a wound g string. What are your opinions on them? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks

It's all personal preference. I would use 11's for C# standard, 10s for D.

And the wound G will stay in tune better than an unwound G at that gauge

Is there much of a difference in sound with a wound g?

Well if you want a big set of strings check out Daddarios. They sell .12's without the wound G's if thats an issue. I used em for a long time but in standard or Eb. This or an .11 set should be fine. I'm really not sure how having a wound string will help it stay in tune better but it could help the tone a fair bit.
