FACEBOOK has come under fire after it was revealed adult sites could show up in people's Facebook account timelines

Technology blog Techwag has warned Facebook users to prepare for embarrassing connections to porn sites to start appearing in their timelines once the new feature goes live in coming weeks.

The timeline feature means you will now have an ongoing and persistent record of your activities when on Facebook and so will others who can view your page.

WTF. Why do people, and why should people know what I'm up to? Facebook is going too far. Plus, Incognito ftw

But, I'll probably delete my account if that does happen.

So facebook will track what other websites I visit? And I can't disable it?

....really?
#9
I've been hearing that Facebook even tracks down stuff while you're NOT logged in on your account and THAT stuff will show up on Timeline as well.

Tried to find a facebook email address for customer support to ask about how true this stuff is but can't find one.

Interesting how they seem to be fixated on getting everybody's facebook friends to stalk each other but don't even have an email address that's easy to find.

I really want facebook confirmation that this crap is for real though (I know Timeline is but about tracking your porn) so I know whether I'm deactivating my account or not.

I don't give a **** who knows if I look at porn, I watch filthy porno with my woman all the time and if she doesn't care, then i don't care who else knows. Still a complete invasion of privacy though, ****ing facebook.....
#19
Well. Looks like I'll be deleting my account. Not that I've been looking at anything delinquent, but porn in general isn't something people want to know you view. Hello, Google+...

From the article:

What this means is that if a porn site uses passive sharing options on Facebook, has “like” buttons on its page or allows people to sign into their site using your Facebook details then all of that will now be recorded on your timeline.

However this will only occur if you choose to interact with porn sites.

So u have to 'like' a pornsite... But why would you do that?
#23
It's because all of these sites (like digg, readit, The Escapist etc) have these Facebook-enabled features so you can essentially use one identity for all these different sites. I don't care if people know what I'm watching, I often link my friends to good pornos anyway.

^^^edit: it says passive facebook stuff, so it sounds like u dont exactly need to click on anything for it to track you

this honestly sounds like a joke and i will not be surprised if this was fake.

but if its not, then are they really allowed to do this?. it seems like an invasion of privacy or something like that

Because they don't want to talk to their users. Imagine if they had to respond to 500 million people's emails every week. Then Zuckerberg would only be worth ten billion dollars instead of 20 or 30. They just want people to keep mindlessly using them and to keep giving away more and more of their personal information.

WTF. Why do people, and why should people know what I'm up to?

You have to understand what Facebook is.

Mark Zuckerberg is one of the richest men in the world because he's an expert at servicing his customers. Users of Facebook, however, falsely believe that they are Facebook's customers. This, however, is not true at all. Facebook's advertisers are its true customers; that's why every time you add more information about yourself, participate in "checked in," post pictures, etc., you're giving Facebook private information that is provided to advertisers, increasing Facebook's revenue. So them keeping track of your "timeline" is actually helping Facebook appeal more to its advertisers -- they can see what ads have been effective, browsing trends of Facebook users, and all sorts of other priceless demographic information that they'd have to otherwise spend oodles of money on research firms to determine. Facebook users, on the other hand, willingly and mindlessly participate in what is really the world's largest and most pervasive market research project.

You're already being tracked by sites all the time anyways. Ever heard of referals? Every time you click on a link to a new page, your browser will send where you clicked the link from. And cookies can be used to track you, along with a ton of other things. Google is also tracking you every second of your internet day.

This is so stupid. I'm really starting to hope that anon hacks it. They are really invading our privacy now. as if the thing that knows your location wasn't bad enough.

I don't think he's asking whether they're allowed to track you. That's not a big deal. I think he's asking whether they're allowed to make your porn visits and whatnot public when you don't want them to be.

Facebook can track your browsing history even when logged out.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2042573/Facebook-privacy-row-Social-network-giant-admits-bugs.html

"Facebook has admitted that it has been watching the web pages its members visit – even when they have logged out.
In its latest privacy blunder, the social networking site was forced to confirm that it has been constantly tracking its 750million users, even when they are using other sites."
