Thanks dirge Your a dick

What are some well executed example's you've seen/heard? I'm particularly interested in musical example.

In this song, he says something about your head rocking back and forth. At the time, it was, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I love breaking of the fourth wall. They do it pretty well in MGS games. Family Guy has some great execution of it too.

i don't know, but i remember the other day i was watching TV with my little sister, and i can't remember what show it was, but the character in the show referred to it as "breaking the 5th wall" which really pissed me off quite a bit.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

Fight Club

Essentially the entire movie, but I especially love the bit where Edward Norton convulses and shakes the film out of the projector. Or when he acknowledges the "cigarette burns" in top right corner of the screen.

I've looked for and spotted the cigarette burns every single time I've been to a theater since watching this movie.

"You're a dick"

On topic though: In music? What about when you're at a concert and one of the band members look at you while they're playing? Does a fourth wall even really exist in music? You could argue songs that seem like they're addressing you directly are breaking a forth wall, no? Songs you listen to and at that moment think, "Holy crap! This is so suitable for what's happening right now!"

This.

Also, it's 'You're a dick,' not 'your a dick.'

That's just relating to the music. There's a difference between you relating to the music, and the music breaking the fourth wall and being like, "Sup Josh, stop nodding your head you look stupid."

Turn the game off right now!

Honestly, though, you have been playing for a really long time. Don't you have anything else to do with your time?

I wouldn't call narration breaking the forth wall. I'd call it narration.

High Fidelity's narration I'm not sure.

Stupid Americans and their inexplicable hatred of placing o and u next to eachother in a word.

An American (New Jerseyian, in fact) pointed this out before you.

EDIT - The "your a dick" was actually intentional. You all fell prey to my razor sharp wit.

Like everyone's already said, High Fidelity and Ferris Bueller are the best examples. I swear there's a Hold Steady or a Lifter Puller song that breaks the fourth wall, but I can't recall at the moment. It's more prevalent in Hip-Hop than any other genre of music though.

He corrected the typo. I'm making a point of how it's another case where an American has bastardized the English language (colour, favourite).

In the song We Used To Wait by Arcade Fire, near the end, they repeat 'Wait for it.." as if they're waiting for the song to end, while they themselves are the song.

I for some reason can't think of any in music right now.

I know Star****ers, Inc. by NIN does but that's not a very good example in my opinion.

Now that we're orbiting music, but just on fourth wall breaking in-general, how has nobody mentioned Spaceballs?

Portal 2 was released the day after my birthday, so I got it, came home and immediately started playing. I got to the point where GLaDOS says "Yesterday was your birthday. Just thought you'd want to know." and I was just like

I'm not sure if that counts, but it was pretty cool anyway.
