What I usually suggest, regardless of what music your into, when you first pick up an instrument, you need to learn the basics, you don't pick up a guitar on day one and learn to play master of puppets or etc. Get a used kit Tama Swingstar/Pearl Export etc.Single pedal basic set up, if your progressing buy a double bass pedal after 6 months or so...move forward logically

look on CL. thats how i got all three of my sets tama starclassic w/ gretsch custom shop hand hammered copper snare, Vintage Ludwig fusion floor set with sequential serial numbers, and a 8 piece tama set from 1984 where all of the hardware is pretty tarnished but i did a lot of buffing and polishing and sound good but arent the prettist.
the tama set has a double bass pedal, the Ludwig has a single, and the vintage tama.

as stated above, look for a pearl forum/export or tama swingstar or whatever is equilivent to the other pearl, a throne (i use a paino bench... lol).

you will need drums
hi hat stand
snare stand
hihat cymbals
crash/ride or a crash abd a ride
the arms to attach the tom arms to the bass drum
a drum key and sticks.

i think thats all i can list off of the top of my head.

also i am in the same boat that you are in, longtime guitarist that started drumming. i dont do it nearly as much as i play guitar, but its nice to learn and do something new.

but craigslist. dont pay full new.

i had a Pearl Export kit and didn't really have any complaints. you will want some new cymbals (i think mine came in a pack with pearl cymbals and they were absolutely terrible), you will want to get new heads to have on backup because pearl puts crappy heads on their drums, you will go through the factory heads in a few days.
