Okay, so ive heard The Cure being discussed in Punk debates. I wouldnt be their biggest fan but i know a bit of their stuff and i would consider it to be far from Punk. Your opinions?
When the days they seem to fall through you well just let them go....

I consider them to be gothic rock.

Gothic Rock. Maybe even New Wave. Which means that they've got some ties to punk, but they themselves are not.

I'd say their early stuff like Three Imaginary Boys could be considered punk.

I'd say not punk. Maybe some punkish tracks - Tthey've done a lot of songs so I guess you could throw most labels at them.

Why would anyone listen to this band when you can just listen to the Smiths?

Besides, Robert Forster looks WAY better in lipstick than Robert Smith ever could.

The Cure kind of fall into the Post-Punk genre, but then again they kinda fall into the new wave genre too. Either way, they're a good band, right up there with the Smiths.

Lots of the Post-Punk genre still falls under the Punk genre IMO

The Smiths are about 50 notches below The Cure. "Pictures of You" alone is better than The Smiths entire discography... and that is not even a top 10 song by The Cure.

The Smiths are better than whatever band we're talking about in this thread.

The Cure are better than every other band we're talking about in this thread.

I like The Cure more than the Smiths.

I don't think the two sound all that similar. I don't see why they get compared all the time.

If I have learned one thing in life, it is that you can never trust anybody who respects Morrissey or anything he is attached to. Good rule of thumb to live by.

Guys! Come on now, who cares who likes what? For some it's the smiths and for others it's the cure. The main thing is we all like music isn't it? That's why we're here?

I personally like the cure but not sure I'd call them punk either, not sure what genre you'd put them in really but some of their stuff is just more ish for me. I go through phases though, one minute I'm lovin the cure and the next it's Joe Satriani and at the moment I'm havin a muse phase.

I love The Smiths and I'd like to think that I'm a trustworthy guy.
