Dubya said he wanted to see America on the moon in 2020 (I think.) I know what I said

This got me thinking, do you believe that the first man to walk on Mars is alive right now? God, I hope so. That's gonna be an awesome day.

Also, discuss Mars.

This is my favorite Mars themed song.

I hope so, and I hope that Ray Bradbury is alive to see it happen.
My God, it's full of stars!

We can only hope the women's studies majors will get us there in our life time.

THIS is the ultimate theme song for Mars. Its actually where John Williams got a lot of inspiration for the Star Wars theme song from. Amazing work.

I do believe that a guy that is alive right now could be the first person on Mars, of course, you never said anything about being alive when hes on Mars. Weve got a long ways to go before we can be there. We barely have the technology to propel ourselves to the bottoms of the ocean.

We have the technology to get to Mars. We have for decades. The tricky bit is to find a country with the desire to invest billions and billions of dollars on something that will likely have little return in terms of practical value.

Can't wait for that day though.

Yeah that song's awesome. My favorite from the suite.

And I think "walking" implied the guy will be alive one he gets there.

We should all invest to go to Uranus. It actually rains liquid diamonds...even though that doesn't really make sense because diamonds are defined by their solid crystalline structure, but still!!!
G(g)od was like: "Make you an ark of gopher wood; rooms shall you make in the ark, and shall pitch it within and without with pitch."

And i was like: "What's gopher wood?"

Hopefully NASA will get its funding back so the US could have a chance. If it doesn't, it'll most likely be China to get there first.

Did you mean he wanted to see Americans on Mars by 2020?

Also that'd be pretty cool to see someone go to Mars in our lifetimes.

This is very unlikely, but it'd be so cool if he was the first one to go to Mars.

NASA won't get its funding back until it becomes apparent that China might beat us.

Alive now? No I don't think so. Is it within our lifetime? Hopefully. As a space travel fan I'd love to witness it.

I don't think Due even caught that one.

No one said that it was going to be a man. This thread is about the first man to walk on Mars and if you want you can make another thread about the first woman to walk on Mars.

I wanna see the mining industry flourish so that we can see the Martian socialist revolution.

They launched the first segment of their space station not long ago I think. They mean business.

Most proper women wouldn't survive a braless trip to a place where bra's are not needed though.

Or the fact that there's no competition in space so they will become lesbian.
#35
Of course the first human on Mars has to be a man, he'll finally be home.

The female astronauts can all go to Venus.

Considering that the USA, Russia and China all have plans to send a manned mission to Mars by around 2020-2030, and considering that a person reaches their peak physical and mental performance at around twenty, but that the need for experienced personnel naturaly increases the average age of an astronaut, (which is currently 36) then yes, in all liklyhood, the first man to walk on Mars probably is alive right now.

This is not weapons trades that we are speaking of, I am a skeptic of getting to Mars anytime soon (I suspect it will eventually happen, but I remember the under fifteen years from now estimates I always heard on TV in the 90's. What was I expecting from the Ancient Aliens channel?) but I would be damn proud if it happened.

Red Faction: Guerilla FTW.

Guerilla is super cool.

But OG Red Faction fo' the win!!!!!!

On topic though, was there not a recent experiment thing where NASA simulated a trip to Mars with real astronauts. Keeping them confined inside a fake craft for however many months it takes to get to Mars to see if they can cope psychologically and physically.
