When our band practices, we can never complete ANYTHING. We can never decide on a song to play. we always seem to play when others are talking trying to decide something. we all have different tastes in music. our drummer loves journey, our bassist loves prog rock and i love blues and jazz. and our singer isnt usually available. (thats fine because i only think we need the singer when the rest of the band is finalized.

what are some tactics to regiment practice and keep it fun that you guys use? how do you decide fairly on a song and how do you elect a "laeder" per say if everyone has different strengths required to lead.

It seems like you guys have fairly different tastes in music, so maybe you should write your own proggy rock/jazz stuff? You could also ask everyone to pick a song, and you all have to learn everyone's song.

A good place to start would be to decide whether you're a cover or originals band, and whether the singer is actually interested.
And no, Guitar Hero will not help. Even on expert. Really.
