I cant recall having heard anything modal by megadeth. Chances are it uses the same notes of the mode of that name but the notes function tonally in a minor key, not modally.

Well Hanger 18 is very heavily modal on marty's part. and with broderick in the picture now i just figured it might be.. but it could be Phrygian could it not?

I know, but the solo after it follows suit just a whole step up. Dave has learnt alot from broderick and if you listen to the solos you will see.

how many people in here can tell me the difference between tonality and modality?

simply using a modal collection of notes doesn't make something modal. pretty sure hangar 18 is in D minor with some added notes.

TS, ignore the solo and focus on the rhythm part. That will tell you whether it's modal or in a key.
And no, Guitar Hero will not help. Even on expert. Really.
