Sure, there are lots of sites to hear the diference among all pedals.

Youtube is probably your best bet. If I remember correctly, Lick Library had a DVD on different effects and sounds. I attended a workshop on Boss pedals recently, pretty good stuff. I personally believe to get your own PERSONAL sound you have to create your own pedal. It's not really that difficult, just read up a bit.
