Seems to me that guitarists will now stick their jack into anything with tubes just because it has tubes. For example, there is an ad on my Craigslist for a 70s Fender PA system being sold as a guitar amp.

I know that tube amps sound better, but only when used in the right way.

A 70's Fender tube PA is worth money just for its historical value. I'd like one just to sit in the corner and look at like a museum piece. It's a rare collectors item, goose.

I use both solid state and tube amps, I prefer tube amps because of the way the tube amplification warms up the signal in comparison to a solid state, but I am not biased towards one nor will I judge someone for using a solid state, unless they try and tell me there Line 6 Spider III on insane has better tone then my class A Marshall. I generally use my tube amp if I am rocking simple distortion, for example some classic rock, just plug in and go.

If I want a spacey effects laden track I tend to use a solid state as it means the POD and pedals are coming out in full force and personally I find effects boards to sound better on a solid state, tried my POD through my tube a few times and it sounded to digital to me, like 1's and 0's. Yeah I know it sounds weird, but it was a real sterile sound, kinda how some people feel about EMGs.

I got my fireproof suit on so flame on!

I don't think so.

How can I persuade her?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe guys will use both Marshall and Fender units that were built to be PA's, as guitar amps. Because (shocker) they sound good.

Thats my bottom line on amps. I go with what sounds good. Although tubes don't automatically make an amp sound good, most of the time they'll be superior. It's just a fact.

Weellll in truth i've been hitting the bottle so there you go but honestly i think that tubes have a warmth and touch sensitivelykty that can't be matched by digital circuits. All my opinion, and SS amps work really well for some things, but I prefer tubne. It isn't wankery either, it's just personal pregference.
