What Are My Children Saying?
TrueCare gives you automatic alerts of content found in categories like Alcohol/Drugs, Bullying/Violence, Depression and Sex
You can customize the service to fit your needs
Know what the “Internet Slang” means, i.e., “POS” is short for Parent Over Shoulder

I didn't even know that.

Quote by Truecare site
Who Are Your Children Talking To?
Most kids have over 221 “friends” online. It’s hard for parents to know them all. TrueCare lets you understand who your child is talking to (name, picture, public profile, etc.). Alerts are sent when a “red flag” occurs, like an adult or someone outside their network “friends” your child.

Aw man, I have 44 Facebook friends. Now I feel inadequte and unloved.

Quote by Truecare website
How does it work?
TrueCare starts with a database of over 500 words covering categories like alcohol, drugs, sex, racism, bullying, depression, suicide, and violence. Our system searches your child’s MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Bebo and YouTube page(s) and sends you a real time e-mail alert if any of those words are found. Your alert includes the word that was found, the context it was used in, and a link to the page or video (if the network TrueCare is monitoring is YouTube) if you want to check it out further. TrueCare will also alert you if someone your child has friended appears to be an adult, or if the person has no mutual friends with your child. We will also send out a weekly recap to summarize your child’s social networking activity over the week.

lol @ the Nigel Nomates who get's raged at by parents.

The girl in the pink shirt during the little slide-show thing on the right side of the page is obviously drinking Miller Lite, I think she needs better taste in beer.

This is pretty shit.

If parents are worried about what their kids are doing on social networking sites, they should become actively involved, not go through some sneaky website that they have to pay for. If you're concerned about your kid's facebook, either ask to see their facebook, or friend request them. If they don't let you, don't let them use a computer.

What is wrong with parents these days? Is the art of getting off your ass and actually doing something lost? "Boo hoo, my kid is posting inappropriate pictures online! Damn you internet!" No, this is not the internet's fault, this is your fault. This is just like blaming video games for violent behaviour or junk food ads for fat kids. Grow some balls and actually parent your goddamn kids.

DON'T MAKE ME DESTROY YOU!

Actually the True Care website recommends that you speak to your child and tell them that you have the True Care app on their profile. They recommend an open relationship and the actual software app thing only alerts parents whenever a danger word is used. It also shows the parents all their videos and pictures in one convenient place. It is meant to be used instead of trawling through all of your child's posts for racist, sexist, suicidal, violent and other remarks that a parent would want to know about.

True care doesn't blame anything, it is just a quicker means for parents to monitor potentially unhealthy behaviour.

This is one of those rare moments you really do care when someone tweets about what they had for breakfast.

How many parents actually do tell their children though?

I'm willing to bet 75% just slap it on there and sit like this forever:

And furthermore, why should a parent invade their child's privacy like that anyway?

That's up to the individual parents. You can't place blame on the product.

I see no problem with this. I also think children should not have their own computer in the first place, they should use their parents where it can be more easily monitored.
You cannot choose the little time you're given in this world. You enter bare and unclothed, provided only with intelligence enough to choose how you spend your time. You always have a choice. Always. Though be warned, your choice can rarely be undone

It's only for the first time in human history that a mere child has access to all of the world's knowledge, good or evil, in one convenient box. Tell me that's not some dangerous shit they is fuckin with.

But should that access be there in the first place? Is it necessary?

Don't give your elementary school kid their own computer. There, I just saved everyone a shitload of money and put TrueCare out of business.

And as for teenagers and young adults? What the hell are they worried they'll find, PORNOGRAPHIC IMAGES? When I was around 11, I found a bunch of dirty magazines behind a dumpster that some guy had put there to throw away. I sold some of them to my friends and kept the rest. Kids are always, always, always going to find ways to get porn, they're always going to be swearing and doing bad things when the parents aren't around.

To normal people it does.

To the media reporting about online child grooming it's always meant parent over shoulder for some reason
It makes it sound like these kids know they're being groomed and want to get raped.

I have never seen someone use POS in that way.
