after listening to my hk amp for guitar sessions, there is no way i'm going back to solid state even for music listening. i found this neat little tube amp company called miniwatt. but thats about it.

does anyone know anything like that but a tad more varieties? cheers

Maybe a kit?

Yaquin are good:

There are quite a few tube Ipod docks out in the wild too. Tube Ipod docks seem to be getting rather popular.

i actually use flac and lossless.

also what is the configuration going to be like? source(pc, cd player, etc) -> tube amp -> reciever -> speakers?

Like it matters if it's flac, wav or mp3 these days. Everything is so unbelievably compressed in the mastering stage that it doesn't matter how you encode it, shit in shit out.

The master itself is compressed.

Well if it's adda'd at the master stage it's not gonna matter if it's pressed to vinyl or flacc'd

That's what I'm saying.
Unless you rip your mp3's from an old disc wtf does it matter what you encode it in? Crap in, crap out. It used to be worthwhile buying the cd rather than just downloading it because you got a better quality recording - not anymore, it's all crap.

Edit: So really, having a perfectly accurate hifi amp isn't a bonus, it is just accurately reproducing crap. With such poor quality recodings a bit of colouring from a tube amp is a good thing, it masks some of the crap. I own a top end hifi amp and I'm seriously considering building a tube hifi amp. Accuracy is a curse these days.
