I like those pieces of wood.
one question though. Why not two volumes so you can blend the two pups?

In the end, the only question is: what bass would Jesus play?

I think he's a Fender Jazz guy.

I like less knobs, I wasn't going to have a tone knob originally but decided to so I can mimick Masvidal's lead tone.

You post on ss.org too right? It's stealthtastic in case you haven't figured it out already :p

How much is she worth?

Looks like it will be really nice though. Hopefully as good as the last Vik that came through here.
Where's Waldo?

I got in the 5 guitar run Vik did so it is in the mid-lower 3k region, which for a guitar with crazy ass woods, fanned frets, a crazy inlay, etc... is a pretty amazing price.

The burled maple is gorgeous; seems like you have got a great list of ingredients for one hell of a guitar. Looking forward to the NGD.

BTW, fanned frets are........?

I came hoping for Final Fantasy. Except for that burled maple top, I was disappointed.

Thanks man!

Fanned frets mean that the guitar incorporates multiple scale lengths. So instead of having say....a 25.5" scale length you would have the lowest string (the 7th in my case) with a scale length of 27" and the highest string (1st) with a 25" scale length.

Longer scale lengths let you use thinner strings for lower tunings, which (imo!) sounds better and you get a more guitar like sound instead of that super fat chunky almost bass like sound you would get with say...a 24.75" guitar tuned to drop Ab.

Now, usually the problem you get with a longer scale length such as 27" is that the higher strings sound more piano like and lose their, "sweetness". To retain that sweetness and avoid a shrill high end, the fanned fret/multiscale uses that 25" (in my case) scale length.

Additionally, a slight fan like the 2" one on this Vik feels awesome. Super ergonomic and it just feels like your hand should be there. The only issue with larger fans like 4"-5" fans is that things start feeling super weird and palm muting is harder.

Your wood gives me wood, but this belongs in Guitar Building & Customizing.

I'll report it for moving.

As do you man! You did that fanned strat a while ago right? That looked ****ing awesome!

Received some more porn from Vik yesterday! The mahogany to be used for the body as well as ebony boards.

Psyched to see that, fanned frets just look so right, btw I'm in Brampton once ever 2-4 years, maybe I'll drop by

Would love to man!

Also Vik said the build should within the next two weeks. I'm pretty stoked, he's been awesome with time guesstimates.

I was originally told he'd start mid-october or late november yet he sent out loads of pictures and whatnot back in September. I can't recommend him enough especially seeing as most luthiers have a tendency to say 2 weeks but really end up taking 2 months.

Super psyched to see things really get rolling. He also takes very little time to build.

Did I mention I'm excited?

Cheers, I'm thinking about also getting it stained a slightly dark brown colour. It would be a tad darker than the colour of this Blackmachine.

Mehtabb, is that your name on SSO as well? I saw that Vik run and I was a bit sad I didn't have the money to jump on it, you better do this thing justice

Just for fun here's another person in the runs spalt top, pretty amazing.

Fingerboards:

My top has been drawn and ready for cuttttin! He's gluing it today as well.

I'm not sure if this is going to my mahogany body because Vik is going to allocate each one according to what we're tuning to but 2 of the bodies are from the same cut:
