hi, I'm in the market for an amp for playing folk/black metal kinda stuff. I don't need super high gain but I'd like a good distortion channel (I have a Bad Monkey if need be). Cleans are very important as well. I've heard a lot of good things about these solid-state Carvins but I'd like some more opinions. I'd be running it with an Ibanez RG321 with Blackouts. Feel free to fire off any other suggestions (my budget is <$400). Thanks in advance.

It is well-made and the prices are great, but the ones I tried a few years ago were very noisy. They were the only Carvin amplifiers I ever tried that I didn't like. Maybe they've fixed the noise problem. If so, they'd make a good SS amplifier.

Is it anything a good noise gate couldn't fix?
