Hey guys I really want a delay pedal but I can't decide on which one to get.

Budget? - No where over $150

Genres? - Hard rock, some metal, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, A Perfect Circle

New or Used? - Doesn't Matter

Home or Gig? - I will be gigging with this pedal as well at recording and home use.

Closest City? - I live in Greeley, CO so biggest big city would be Denver but I go to Colorado Springs almost every weekend.

Current Gear? - In my sig

I've been looking into the MXR Carbon Copy and also the Malekko Ekko 616. I want to do nice cleans and also some really spacy UFO distorted stuff and also just nice delay for some solo work. So what do you suggest?

The 616 is said to very good, but if you can stretch roughly another 20 dollars, you could consider the TC Electronic Flashback as well.

Are you looking for analog of digital?

But from what you've said, this looks like it could help you if you stretch your budget a little

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

The malekko ekko is better than the CC.
However, for leads under highish gain I always think that digital delays sound better. I like analog delays for lower gains and cleans.

So maybe the TC nova repeater? I'm pretty certain that's in your budget.

Im not entirely sure what the difference between analog and digital is. I haven't been able to figure it out...

I also forgot to say it needs to be compact!

Digital: Crisp repeats. Exactly the same as the original signal. Also digital delays have more features [in general] such as tap tempo.
Analog delay: Warmer repeats, rolls off some highs on the repeated tone. Doesn't usually have tap tempo, but has a nicer sound [IMO] for cleans and mild dirt.

If you are unsure, I'd suggest digital. They usually have passable analog emulation, have more features and can cover a wider range of styles.

I can't recommend the Boss DD-7 highly enough. It's a beast for the price.

The TC is a little out of my budget. I would have to see what I get for selling an amp for mine to see if I can get that one.

So im thinking in reality I'm wanting a digital for the UFO kinda stuff and an analog for my cleans so I want a mix of both ha! But it looks like the TC has both kind of does it not?

I haven't had the chance to. It's never at my house although what I can say is that it sounds fantastic. My band are recording an ep at the moment. I had the chance to crank my amp today and blast some lead/delay parts. I got some very nice periphery esque clean delay tones, very airy and articulate. It sounded ****ing awesome.

For what I need this pedal is great. I'll probably try and download some presets at a later date although I thoroughly recommend this pedal. The loop feature is awesome too..

I've tried out the Hardwire Digital Delay and gotten some great tones out of it. Same with the Line 6 Echo Park. Get yourself to a music store and try some stuff out.

If you want analog, i'd choose an mxr carbon copy.
If you want digital, then +1000000 to the TC flashback.
