Here's a little food for thought;

If you cross the North Korean border illegally you get 12 years hard
labor.
If you cross the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely.
If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot.
If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally you will be jailed.
If you cross the Chinese border illegally you may never be heard from
again.
If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally you will be branded a spy
and your fate will be sealed.
If you cross the Mexican borders illegally you will jailed for two years.
If you cross the Cuban border illegally you will be thrown into political
prison to rot.

If you cross the United States border illegally you get:

1 - A job
2 - A driver's license
3 - A Social Security card
4 - Welfare
5 - Food stamps
6 - Credit cards
7 - Subsidized rent or a loan to buy a house
8 - Free education
9 - Free health care
10 - A lobbyist in Washington
11 - Billions of dollars in public documents printed in your language
12 - Millions of servicemen and women who are willing to - and do - die
for your right to the ways and means of our @#$%----ution
13 - And the right to carry the flag of your country - the one you walked
out on - while you call America racist and protest that you don't get
enough respect.

Is this supposed to be a good argument against illegal immigration? Are you seriously trying to say that the USA should be more like North Korea, Iran, or China?
Perhaps you should look to the policies of developed countries for inspiration, rather than to middle eastern theocracies, State Capitalist Dictatorships, or developing countries?

Many times this is a problem. They undercut union wages and work for little/no benefits, making it harder for union workers to get jobs. Some don't even pay taxes on their wages.

That being said, I'm a fan of tighter border security, but easier immigration standards.

The problem here isn't the illegals, desperate people will work for whatever they can get, the problem is the employers (who are not desperate) who are willing to break the law.

Some being around 25%, its hard to get a documented number for undocumented workers. It could be more than that, it could be less. When you want to pay taxes, but don't want Immigration rolling up to your door, you get a Taxpayer ID number, aka an ITIN.

We give a ton of them out. Mind you, they're only really for immigrants, people under other circumstances (witness protection, for example) usually get new Soc Sec numbers.

I'd like an easier immigration process, because it means that we could issue fewer ITINS which in turn means that we need to payout less for agencies protecting illegal immigrants, but illegal immigration is a fact of life now.

This. Don't get mad at people trying to better their life. Get mad at employers who know damn well the people are working here illegally and are exploiting them to pay less wages and make a profit.

You hit the nail on the head. When Arizona passed sb 1070 I always felt it should have been the employers who should have been persecuted, instead of the illegal immigrants. But consequently, punishing employers who hired illegal immigrants would have left many illegal immigrants unemployed.

This is quite the conundrum, I guess the illegal immigrants were the ones to come under fire because they're the easiest ones to blame

I've looked at these before, definitely a step in the right direction. The problem is that there are a relatively minuscule amount of people who have actually signed up to receive them. There is a roughly estimated figure of 15-20 million illegal immigrants in the US as we speak, 1.5-2 million actually paying taxes is just a drop in the bucket.

I don't see a problem with employers hiring them as long as it is for a job one of our workers may over-qualify for, or if it's a manual labor job. My problem is them being hired in a time of massive unemployment, and the people who are most likely to persecute immigrants are the same people who often hire immigrants to do their lawn work, clean their house, etc.
