I loved Encore_God's old video thread (here), so I decided to start a new one, and hopefully encourage some posting on our lonely forum.

If you've seen any cool blues or jazz videos on youtube or similar sites, post them here.

Discussion is more than welcome and encouraged, but let's not turn this into a place to debate about which artists are "real" blues or the merits of jazz fusion, if we can help it.

I'll get us started. A cool song played by the late Sean Costello:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnIFVPFqHYM&feature=related

I dig the solo in this song.

I was wondering where you ran off to. I'm diggin' the new Tedeschi Trucks Band stuff. The whole album is great.

Ha! Yeah, I've been a little scarce. Real life can get in the way of one's internetingz. It seems I wind up in The Pit more often than not when I peek in here... Also, for what it's worth, I don't feel obligated to chime in on every "recommend me some blues" thread. By now, I know I've spoken my peace enough to not be that scratched record...

The Tedeschi Trucks Band is fantastic though, I've seen them twice now and I'm lovin' it. I met Derek's dad at the last show, he's running the merch booth. But yeah man, they're tight! They all look like they're having such a great time too, especially Oteil. And yes, the album is great.

Here's a few more videos/tunes.

The Steepwater Band - Remember The Taker

Marc Ford & The Neptune Blues Club - Don't Get Me Killed

Muddy Waters w/ Johnny Winter - Can't Be Satisfied

Gregg Allman - Floating Bridge

Duane Allman - Happily Married Man

The Allman Brothers Band - Egypt

I saw the ABB play "Egypt" this past April at the Wanee Festival. I knew what it was within the first half of a second and I just freaked. They don't just play this all the time, so I was in heaven for the next 10 - 15 minutes.

But anyways, how the hell have you been?

I'm doing great. Staying busy. Way too busy, actually.

I haven't gotten to see TTB yet. They haven't come close enough. I'm going to catch Warren Haynes Band next month, though.

Is life treating you well?

Nice, I saw the Warren Haynes Band at Wanee too. It was fantastic.

I've been busy enough. I've been married to my job since January, which is a blessing and a curse... House projects, jamming, drinking, concerts, overtime, catching up from a 20-month lay-off, chasing tail, new car, etc... I can't wait for some vacation time, I'm gonna burn up a week as soon as I get some back. Seriously, it's been getting to be too much.

Shit man, there was even a period of like 2 and a half months where I didn't even touch a guitar, it even felt foreign that first time. But, it's one of those things where you come back and just smoke the plateau that you were stuck on. I feel like my phrasing has improved a lot.

Still searching for that perfect IPA too...

I love all of their beers that I've tried. The 15th anniversary imperial black IPA is very good, too. Very strong, hoppy, but finishes very heavy like a stout.

I like the sound of that. If I see it, I'll be grabbing it. Lagunitas' IPA Maximus is a strong and full flavored IPA. I've been drinking that and Flying Dog's Snake Dog IPA a lot.

With the exception of this week, I've been on a little Oktoberfest kick. 'Tis the season, ya know?

Oh, yeah. I love fall seasonal beers. I miss Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, but Shock Top has an alright Pumpkin Wheat beer that my girlfriend likes, so I've been drinking that with her. The New Belgium Brewing Company has a good fall seasonal called hoptober. Sam Adams Octoberfest is always around...

"I have a really full life, both within music and outside it. I've been lucky enough that I can gather all sorts of experiences and find inspiration by traveling around and by spending time with people I admire. If I should have another big hit -- which is something I don't hold my breath waiting for -- that's great. But that's not why I do this. I do it for the excitement, the inspiration, and the adventure." - Bonnie Raitt

I saw and met The Steepwater Band this past Saturday. Great band, great guys, great time.

A buddy of mine wanted to know what they sound like, so we got online and I found this right away...

I saw these guys open up for JJ Grey & Mofro last night in Milwaukee. I met half of the band and just had a real good time. Soul music is close enough to Blues & Jazz, so, here we go...

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound - Baltimore Is The New Brooklyn

They've been doing an excellent and completely reinvented cover of a Wilco song too:

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound - I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

EDIT: If you don't know who Mofro is, check this out:

I'm a huge Mofro fan. They were in Memphis a week or two ago. I couldn't make it, but I introduced an uncle to the band, he ended up going to the show. He loved them.

The Matt Schofield Band - Lay It Down

Jaimoe's Jasssz Band - Drifting And Turning

This thread just fell of the face of the Earth. I had some hopes for it, but I don't want it to be the "Jazz Funeral's Video Thread". Maybe somebody (Kyle, I'm looking at you) wouldn't mind revamping the Stickies in here. Hell, I think the AOTM has become the AOTLastYear&AHalf.

Strong Persuader & Them Dirty Blues have been up there forever, but I suppose there aren't a whole lot of new contributions...

Most of what happens in here is snobs and noobs and John Joe Mayer Bonomassa fanboys that do a lot more talking than they do listening - if they come here at all. Admittedly, I've been bored with it, and UG in general. But I've got plenty of shit to keep me busy so I really haven't had the time to kill.

We should try to make some kind of clamor though. What did you guys do in here when it was busy? That was before my time...

When this forum was most busy (years ago), there were 10 or so regular users and a bunch of infrequent users with really solid taste in music and willingness to listen to new stuff, that kind of posted together, kept a lot of different threads active, helped everyone that came in, etc. Those guys are LONG gone (me excluded, if I can count myself as one ). I didn't become a moderator until well after that.

After the lull following that group, there was the little boom that John Mayer brought, but that boom was nothing but arguing.

Since then? It's been this.

I'd like to try to make this forum more active, but my last couple of attempts have been miserable failures, and I'm just short on time now. I sink most of my UG time in GG&A and EG as a moderator and user.

Still, I'm willing to try anything. I'd love nothing more than to see this forum flourish again.
