I got this RG1527 which I'm currently stripping the finish off. I want to do some sort of interesting finish on it, so I'm seeking a bit of inspiration. I don't really want to do an oil-finish as I think basswood looks a bit boring for that.

So far I have considered:

Black and white newspaper finish with polyurethane gloss.

Black and white (or other colours??) chessboard style finish with gloss.

"Crackly" pain finish in undecided colours. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/Leidolfr/Mockingbird.jpg)

All ideas are welcome

I'd love to, tbh. But because of the bevel on the top, that would probably be more money and time than I would want to spend

^Bevel on the top? Who beveled it? If it's just the forearm contour then that's not very much more challenging than a completely flat top...

Hey- how about that new adhesive carbon fibre-looking vinyl sheet from 3M? That's something I'd really like on a guitar some day.

Yeah, it's the forearm contour. I never worked with veneers before, so I assumed it would be tricky with any sort of contours

Carbon fibre sheet is a great idea, thanks!

Just googled and came up with this

^If you search for 3M carbon fiber on YouTube then you'll see how easy it is to work with, air bubble removal included. I thing it's called Di-Noc.

you can go far with a veneer

Would love to! But how would I go about putting a veneer on a top with a forearm contour?

its easy really. its all about dispersing the weight via a sandbag or bag of rice. i had a pretty steep contour on my guitar as well (though not sure how visible it is in the picture)

heres directions step by step
http://projectguitar.com/tut/veneer.htm

and u can get a bookmatched veneer for $20 here (same guy that made the website above)
