Sup Pit,

Do you hold yourself to behave according to morals and/or ethics while online? Or do you completely disregard them and behave however you want over the Internet.

I myself have ethics and morals while gaming, so you'd never see any of my XBL accounts camping, tac-knifing, AR spraying, trash talking or whatever unless it was one of my friends playing because they pull that shit all the time.

Anyway, do you behave ethically and morally online?

On games, depends. Sometimes I just like to play cheap. I also troll people. But I do that in real life too. I guess im a bit of an asshole

Camping is a cheap tactic used by people who don't think they can win with skill.

Tac knifing is a cheap tactic used by people that can't aim and shoot at the same time.

AR spraying is for people too lazy (or unskilled) to find a battle rifle or switch to their magnum.

I'm pretty sure I'm almost exactly the same online as I am in person. So yes, all ethics and morals apply everywhere for me, online, offline, standbyline etc.
I want to read your essays and blogs of the artistic nature!

Yet all 3 are tactics used by the best players in the world. Camping is all about finding a chokepoint that a large number of enemies file through and shooting anything that comes out, much like, you know, real soldiers do.

lol nah. There's a difference between camping and map control my brother. Sitting in a dark corner where no-one looks is not map control, it is camping. Patrolling the same place so your enemies can't get to a power position is map control.

Map control =/= Camping

Tac knifing used by the best players in the world? lol nah. The only guy I can think of who actually uses it as his main weapon is OnlyUseMeBlade, and he's not exactly a bastion of skill. He just beats people who don't know map routes very well.

AR charging... just no bro. Just no. The only good Halo 3 player I know of who actually AR sprays is SergeantNewfie, and anyone that frequents Team Mythic (I love you all, especially you Elusiv Ninja X, and Munkk1) will tell you that he's terrible by himself. If he got a decent BR then him, Lowe, Vapor and whoever their other guy is would just dominate every single game.

BR > AR every single time.

Come back when you've played some people with skill, not just randoms.

Nah brah. I put people on the righteous path in Halo 3. They AR me, and I beat them. They call me a hacker, because I have yellow bar and am from New Zealand which gives me an advantage somehow, then I tutor them in the ways. My BR beats a charging AR 99% of the time.

And ranting is for people who lose due to someone using an intended game mechanic that is also available to them, and um... real soldiers do, because they don't respawn enough to go about like madmen.

Everyone's got a knife and people... um... stabs people with one, they're not for displaying. Though the knife is very, very overpowered in Call Of Duty at least.

Some poeple just want to have fun, not play with these unwritten rules of the "pros". By your complaints about knifing, I suspect you play CoD, which isn't really intended for more than fast paced fun, but like most/all online games, have turned into a ragefest.

I miss the good old 4-5 years ago, where "GG" was more common than adressing others with their means of killing suffixed -noob or -fag. And MMOs, not every low-mid level character is the 100th alter ego. DOTA-based games are the worst though.

And shooting many bullets is... well... the point in automatic rifles.

I do say good game after every game if they have a mic. I've never trash talked anyone. I tell people on my team to not trash talk.

I don't mind if I get knifed if it's close range and is the most viable option for them. But when they purposely MLC tac knife me from 10 feet away it's not very fun. I don't game at all anymore, I was spending all my spare time on the Xbox and every game got the same. And then I played a concert in front of a whole lot of people and realised that the buzz I get off playing guitar is infinitely better than anything gaming ever gave me.

And yeah that is the point of ARs, but when you still have people at 40+ trying to AR you from miles away it's just like, "Why". My main gripe isn't with noobs that AR spray, or tac knife, it's the good players who choose to do that when they could be doing other more honourable things. Even if their K/D doesn't go up as fast from it. And camping is always a dick move.

And as for the fun thing, for everything except the last 2 months of my gaming I was having heaps of fun. Now that I don't game properly anymore and have sold my xbox, I can game and have heaps of fun with my mates again.

**** honor it's a game to have fun stop being a ****ing tryhard. Your kind are far more irritating to play with than anyone you mentioned.

"oh wtf he killed me but I'm still way better because the way he did it was cheap. I refuse to adapt to this situation to change it, but I'm still say better."

I'd rather lose with a disadvantage than win with an advantage.

Maybe NZ gamers have different mindsets than you bros.

This has become a flame fest and is just going to get locked.

I'm out.

I am chill bro.

You chill.

I don't even game anymore bro.

Bro.

And to all you non bros telling me that Tac knifing and ARs are weapons there to be used, I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying it would be good ethics to not ***** them around.

I always act the way I do online as I would in person. I'm also a very calm person in general, I never really 'rage' at anyone.

As for in gaming.. I always immediately go to the highest effective strategies within the confines of the game (eg not cheating or abusing glitches). If I find a strategy that is drastically more effective than others I will use it, as in a competition in the end it doesn't matter who's strategy was most complex, only who won. Holding yourself back from using a less effective strategy because of personal moral code or 'because it's cheap' is a losing mindset to begin with.

The real sign of a great player (at least in any vaguely well balanced game) is understanding the most effective strategies, knowing how to use them and why they work, and how to avoid being caught by them by creating counter strategies. If someone is camping, you will always know where to find them and if you keep running into them it's technically your own fault for losing. Camping, from a strategic standpoint is only cheap against players who refuse to change their strategy. Good players don't complain, they adapt.

Halo 3 hatemail is so much better than CoD hatemail. You should hear some of the shit they come up with mang. Especially in Team Doubles, those guys are fucking sensitive.

Yeah, me too.
I don't act like a disrespectful arsehole when I'm conversing face to face with someone, or on a phone, or even via letter writing (ask your parents about it) so why should I act any differently when I'm conversing with someone online?

I view on-line activity as performance art. Sometimes while watching porn I will cover the men's faces... with my hand. I am fairly certain that morals do not exist. I answered no to your poll, Ts (I usually say yes to your poll).

You are EXTREMELY WRONG! I have played it. I own an 18W and it would be an awful stereo amp, it's way too bright, breaks up too easily and so on. Secondly, why would a guitar store sell an hifi amp.

When I play games, in this case video games online, I do everything within the rules to win the game.

And then I lol when everyone refuses to civilly deal with it.
#31
I never answered the OP because I didn't quite understand if there were ethics on the internet, now I know what you meant.

No I don't follow them, at least not usually when I can't be arsed posting something more 'moral'. I made an obvious insensitive post last night that tweaked a feeling in a user or two, and I knew I'd cop flak for it beforehand I reread it, thought it over and posted it anyways.

I think I was called a dick and rightly so, it was in poor taste.

That's one instance of probably many where I just did not give a rats arse.

edit: what timing, that thread got bumped.

Everybody is lying. Everyone on the internet is a cunt, because you're just a faceless randomer typing on a keyboard.

I'm totally different in reality to how I am online, especially the Pit. I'm a massive twat on the internet, purely because it's easy to be and I find it amusing to see people get pissy over exactly less than jack shit.

Concerning games, if it isn't banned or against any specific rule, it's fair play. Don't like how other people play? Either get over it or go away, simple as.

I used to camp like a mofo back when battlefield for the PC was popular. I would also get people in my chopper and drop them of on a remote island on the outskirts of the map, taking the boat as their only means of escape (besides swimming) and convince them to blow theirselves up with their own c4. It was fun being a 13 year old gamer asshole.

Now, for xbox, I play regularly as a good gamer/team player.
