How did they get away with it for so long? It's not like Jake Holmes (the guy Zep stole 'Dazed and Confused' from) was some underground musician at the time. he put out a record and even performed the song on the ****ing tonight show, so how did it take 20 years for people to realize they blatantly stole a bunch of shit? Did they have a team around them that just paid people off to keep quiet or what?

Blame the guys who didn't take any action against it. If it's such a crime then they stood idly by and let it happen. Oh silly Killjoy, thinking he knows stuff.

Some of the songs their accussed of stealing like When the Levee Breaks are obvious, but others like Dazed and Confused seems like just grasping at straws

You realize that The Beatles had A LOT of hit songs that they covered. Bands can do covers.

Don't tell Killjoy that, his head'll 'splode.

You know what? I have been plagiarized. The drummer of my band quit and had all my guitarpro files including one titled "Potential licks". His new band took the the chords from my song and put the licks from that file over top of the music. Their guitarist both suck however and hack up the chords and the lead parts, at the end of the day, the person who plays it best gets the credit.

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

Because they're white. People will bitch and moan when black rappers and R'n'B singers go sampling/reworking/blatantly stealing things from other musicians, but if a white rockstar does it, it's grand.

When a rap band samples a song from a rock artist = UG flips the shit out

When Led Zeppelin steals music and passes it off as an original = UG it's cool, it's a cover.

They didn't, loads of blues is 'stolen' if you're going to call Led Zep 'stolen music' -_-. The amount of times a line from boogie chillen ends up in another blues song or baby please don't go or empire state express...

Jake Holmes didn't mind them playing the song, but he was annoyed they didn't credit it. That's it.

....then that's plagiarism.

i actually came into this thread wanting to ask if they ever gave credit to the original song writers, but since they didn't then yea they plagiarized someone else's music.

Well they've mostly got away with it because they are Led ****in' Zeppelin. Other reasons include but are not limited to ; Being Led ****in' Zeppelin and Being Led ****in' Zeppelin.

Your opinion, sucks. Your poll, sucks. Led Zeppelin never stole anything. They made a couple of songs that they saw potential in and made them there own. It a strange form of "covering" a song and if you don't know what a cover is you need to open your eyes. Many artists nowadays used other artist's/s' songs to get famous before they ever wrote their own music.

EDIT: I forgot to add that it was closer to the Yardbird's version, so they cover/adapted their version, not Holmes. It is your opinion where credit is due I guess.

Indeed. But it actually wasn't as under handed as people think (like in the case of Stairway to Heaven). The Yardbirds actually played a legit cover of Dazed and Confused, with credit given to Holmes, but it was more electric and psychedelic, a lot more closer to the Zeppelin version than Holmes version. Then, Led Zeppelin did their version, which was only slightly different to the Yardbirds version, with no credit given to Holmes. That's when Holmes wrote to Page asking for credit. He never replied.

EDIT: This is such old news though, why does this thread exist!?

There is a difference here though, band do covers, yes, are covers wrong? No. this is not a cover.

Quote by Wikipedia
When the Yardbirds disbanded in 1968, the song "Dazed and Confused" was re-worked by Page yet again, this time while as a member of Led Zeppelin..... the Led Zeppelin version was not credited to Holmes. Page took the title, came up with a new set of lyrics, and changed enough of the melody to escape a plagiarism lawsuit from Jake Holmes. While Holmes took no action at the time, he did later contact Page in regards to the matter. Page had not replied as of 2001.[15] In June 2010 Holmes filed a lawsuit in United States District Court, alleging copyright infringement and naming Page as a co-defendant.

That is yes, but all the blues stuff isn't really.

Also Jimmy Page had a shit guitar tone and didn't know how to use the bass knob on his amp.
