anywho, my net connection has been seriously slow for forever. i am under contract with brighthouse networks, which is the shittiest service i've ever had. the net connection is very unstable, crashes once every day, and impossible to get serviced. so i decided to read up about networking and learn some stuff about it, since my net provider sucks major ass.

long story short, i wired my house up for a hardwire connection to every room ( which means i have ethernet plugs in every room of the house. connecting to my ps3, and my desktop in my room, buffered the speed up and stabilized it with a few thingamabobs and doo-hickies, and i also put in this shiny little sucker of a router.

dual band 300 + 450 mbps router. sucker is fast as hell.

if anyone wants, i can post up pictures of my wiring job. its not that tidy, but its better than what it was before.

did a major ****ing edit. post now makes sense.

No links

Yet I'm still confused
Maybe the black box has gained sentience. The first paragraph is the OP, then the second is OP learning about tech, the last paragraphs are actually the black box gaining sentience and integrating itself into the circuitry of the house.

What does that shiny little sucker do?

its a dual band router. it sends the signal much faster than normal, and since i oddly have 2 wireless adapters in my desktop, its receiving signals at 300 and 450 mbps together. i'm coming close to 900 mbps wireless, and i'm hitting 1 gig when hardwired into my wall

i just felt like making the thread.

kindof? but not really. my ms lag in league of legends is now 6 (instead of its 83 that it once was), and ddonline has a lag of 2.67 ms now.

my actual net connection to my house is t2 (2 fiberoptic lines). thats what my neighborhood was set up for (yay for rich community)

i'll post a picture of the 3 servers i've built for people.

one is capable of massive traffic. like in upwards of around 10k at once.

I think he means within the network he would get 900mbps? Like computer to computer for example.
#32
i'm splitting the connection from the modem into a 8 channel switcher and my router. the switcher is for the hard-wiring inside the home.
any switcher supporting 1,000 mbps will do if you want to hardwire homes.

you also need a very good modem to reach gaming intensity speeds. often times you can call your isp and get an upgrade just by asking

you also need really really good net cables. linksys makes some good ethernet cables, but i'm told there is better stuff out there.

Um... But the signal is digital, not analog, so why would the cable matter?

download and uploading are somewhat different, but i have a t2 connection going to my home.

thats going into my modem, thats 6.8 something mbps. from my modem to my computer, its hitting 900 wireless, 1k wired in.

the purpose of the router being so powerful, is that it reduces the latency from my modem to me.

???

going into the modem, its analog, inside the modem, its digital, outside the modem its analog.
in no area of technology can something be 100% digital. its really hard to explain, so try googling it.

wires are analog, you need to wire your modem to your router, and when hardwiring your house, you need to hardwire from your switcher to your room. the longer the cable, the longer the latency. better cables = shorter latency.

the modem and router process everything digitally. meaning it used a dsp to analyze, decrypt, and encrypt the signal. however, once the signal leaves the modem, its needs to be bridged to the router, meaning that you need a cable (analog) to connect the 2.

But the signal is digital. I guess when you're working with high-performance application, minute details would need to come into factor, but I fail to see how the cable used would make a difference in performance, as it's transmiting a digital signal. That's like buying a high-end HDMI cable.

i'm not. the downspeed into the modem is the same. from the computer to the router its 900 mbps. it used to be 11 mbps.

from the computer to the router it is 900 mbps, from the router to the modem its 6.8 mbps, from the modem to the end of my neighborhood its 6.8, from my neighborhood to brighhouse i'm told its 248.

there are multiple choke points in an internet connection.

computer-router-modem-"way-station"-isp-internet websites server.

i sped up the chokepoint to the router.
