I was wondering which cab would give me the best metal (IE- Megadeth, Metallica, Metal Church, Slayer, Testament, Judas Priest, Dream Theatre etc) and do some sound. I included a 2x12 version of the recto cab because some claim its got a sound of its own and prefer 2 2x12 over the 4x12. Cheers!

I reported your other thread for you so a mod can close it. Maybe PM a mod to confirm that. I didn't see this one. I assume you made an honest mistake and didn't realize your thread posted. Happens.

What is you budget?
Do you gig?
I prefer 2x12s
Where do you live?
You should be able to find a Mesa 212
Running 2 - 212 cabs can work but is a bit trickier.
What amp do you have?
#4
i wouldn't end your search with mesa only. there are tons of good cabs out there and tons better. at the price you are going to pay for one of those cabs new, you could get a port city or a emperor (may be pushing it a little bit).

i do own an oversized mesa 4x12" and it does sound great. mine is a little bit older and its got the regular celestion V30's in it.

also dont limit your speakers to one type. V30's are godly mixed with K100's.

Budget: not really an issue
closest major city seattle
I dont gig at the moment but will be soon.
Mainly looking for something for recording but still would be great for gigging as i will be using it for both.
I just have the cabs that are universally used on UG.

i would look into emperor if price isn't a major concern. they are heavey as hell tonally. i only have played one of their cabs, but was left very impressed. impressed enough to where i feel comfortable recommending something that i dont have a ton of expiernce with.

no, I meant what amp do you have?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/msg/2659094415.html
http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/msg/2659092840.html not sure about the XXX speakers
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/msg/2609485963.html interesting

But yeah, if budget is not really an issue then troll the various forum classifieds at rig-talk, the gear page, and harmony central. That is what I would do in addition to checking craigslist. I bought a new Avatar cab several years ago for $400 for a custom 212. Then I traded it for a Splawn 212. I highly recommend you look into a Splawn cab. May take several weeks to build but it will be custom basically, affordable and one of the best money can buy. And yeah, Emperer, Mills, Bogner, White Box, Lopo, Vadar, Framus, Marshall, etc all make good cabs too.

boom......here, check it

i feel like you were joking but in any case, matchless load their cabs with g12h and g12m speakers. not really speakers you would use for metal. amazingly build cabs. i'm pretty sure they are solid wood rather than plywood so they are also pretty heavy.

the Peavey XXL is by far the best Solid State ive played on, not that ive played on alot but, ive played more expensive solid state amps and was much less impressed with them as the Peavey XXL. Even some tube heads were pretty disheartening around the price I got the head for new. After I decided thats the head I wanted I found a new one in a little known hole in the wall music store nearby that had a new one that had been sitting for some serious time. I was able to talk him down from 400$ on it to 300$. I ended up spending alot less than I thought id spend on a head

that was my first head like 8 years ago. it was definitely a good SS amp, but i paid $225 NEW from MF when those were on closeout.

My buddy had an XXL and I used to ahve the Bandit 112 too. I like my Ampeg infinitely more.

I actually just looked at the Avatar Website for the first time and had no Idea how customizable the cabinets were. I Have my eye on that Burgundy Tolex and Oxblood grill 2x12. I am still a complete speaker nub besides knowing V30s are pretty much whats standard. I was wondering with their wide selection of speakers if 2 V30s would be the best way to go.

Lots of Options

Celestion: Vintage 30s, G12H30s, G12T75s, Greenbacks, Classic Lead 80s, Hellatone 30s, Hellatone 60s and G12K100s

Eminence Governors, Wizards, Private Jacks, Swamp Thangs
