Watching Obama's press conference right now. All US soldiers will be out by the end of the year apparently.

How do you feel? Is there work left to be done?

I think it's a great campaign move by Obama.

The United States will withdraw almost all its troops from Iraq by the end of the year, as a current agreement with Iraq dictates, a U.S. official told CNN Friday.

Only about 150 troops, a negligible force, will remain to assist in arms sales.

The United States had expected that some of the roughly 40,000 Americans in Iraq would remain there to aid in training and security.

But the two nations were unable to reach a deal on a key issue regarding legal immunity for U.S. troops, a senior U.S. military official with direct knowledge of the discussions told CNN this month.

The United States wanted to retain immunity but the Iraqis refused to agree to that, opening up the prospect of Americans being tried in Iraqi courts and subjected to Iraqi punishment.

The negotiations were strained following WikiLeaks' release of a diplomatic cable that alleged Iraqi civilians, including children, were killed in a 2006 raid by American troops rather than in an airstrike as initially reported by the U.S. military.

I've not followed the progress in Iraq for a few years, so I don't know much. But isn't it still Afghan that's the main problem, and troops are still being shipped out there until 2015 or something?

I have to agree with this, and if it is pretty much a campaign move, my opinion of Obama can't really go lower so I wouldn't be surprised.

Agreed. I don't support the war to begin with but I kind of feel like we're obliged to stay at least to assist. I need to learn more about this though.

So, they are going to be moved out of Iraq and into Afghanistan?

The Iraqi government won't give US troops diplomatic immunity. If they would open on that, there'd be a small contingency of security troops left in Iraq to help them combat threats. If there's a flare up, the Iraqi government did it to their own people.

Yeah that's worked out really well for us.

We shouldn't really have been there to begin with, considering nobody ever asked for our help. However, we were there, and as far as I'm concerned, we should've been out of Iraq years ago.

It's sad that this is something that was used as fuel to drum up more favorable votes, though.

As far as things getting difficult once the US forces pull out, naturally they will. However, the people there have to learn to stand on their own. They've got a means to function, to defend themselves and affect change. It's never been our business to force on other people anyway, but if they don't function under their new independence, they may as well just give up their land and move to the US.

The US Economy is irrelevant to who profited from this. The aim wasn't the improve the US economy.

Halliburton, on the other hand, made enough money to fill several swimming pools.

Out of the oven and into the frying pan. We'll have more presence in Afghanistan. Honestly, unless he says that American troops will be pulled out of the middle east in it's entirety, he can take his words and shove them up his ass. Mad bro? why yes I am.

More like a secondary objective. Primary was get Saddam and his followers. Honestly if Bush hadn't ****ed up and gone into Iraq, the mission in Afghanistan would've been over in less than three years max.

Shouldn't have been there in the first place. America needs to stop trying to police the world and have their ideology, or an ideology that is sympathetic to US interests, dictate the entire planet. They're the Matt Frattin of countries.

So we went in and took out their infrastructure and now we're essentially going to leave the country to collapse inward so that a worthless president can up his chance of getting re-elected?

I wonder about this quite a bit. If certain actions are only done to drum up votes and people are aware of this fact, why does it work?

Are people just dumb?

I never said that Halliburton was the reason you went to war. Simply that War and Profit are heavily interlinked.

It was profitable enough for a while, but not profitable for the US, just for certain sectors.
