If it's old school metal then a DSL. If you want a more modern metal sound, a TSL. A DSL will eat a TSL for breakfast for rock.

I've heard people compare the 2 a lot. Apparently, the DSL is supposed to be more JCM800ish and the TSL is supposed to be a little more JCM900ish. Either way, I know that the DSL 50 is better than the DSL 100 and the TSL 100 is better than the TSL 60. My advice is to try them both out.

On a side note, have you even considered what you're doing for a cab? You will need a pretty decent cab for any of those heads. Does your budget have some room for the cab too? Are you borrowing one?

You just want a good tone.

Or do you just want a Marshall?

This is a good point, because pesonally I only like the Plexi and class 5 that they make.

But it is your choice

For anything modern metal, stay away from the dsl, its good for older metal amd rock, ots really good for that, and i rember the cleans being pretty awesome too.

2 things to take note of, i only has 1 3band eq for both channels. Secondly, its a discontinued amp because they had tendancies to over heat. You prpbably should read more on that if you decide on a dsl.

Imo the best marshall fpr modern metal in my experience was the jvm, and even then i wasnt that impressed with it.
If your set on marshall fine but please know there are proba ly better buys/deals out there on just as good amps for what you want that are made by different manufacturers

you dont know what you want, you just know what emblem on the front of it. DSL50 if you can find it in your budget, a JCM800 would be a miracle. but even the DSL50 wouldn't do newer metal all that well.
