My school's going to Las Vegas for a musical festival (for music classes) and we're gonna be staying at some hotel there. With so much free time on hand, I know it's gonna be easy to smoke without being seen by school staff but I'm just wondering.. would I get in any trouble at all if i do get caught? and I'm talking about cigarettes. As for bud, I'm thinking of bringing some spice just to be safe

I'm 18.

tldr; does school rules still apply to students on a field trip?

Of course. If you're in any way involved in any sort of school activity, you have to abide by school rules. It's a liability issue. Sucks, but those are the breaks. Oh, and you shouldn't smoke. I did it in high school, and I'm glad as hell that I quit. Reason #1 among others is that most women find it incredibly unattractive.
#6
Yes, school rules apply.
If it's anything like my high school, all the parent chaperones will wake up when ANY door opens at ANY time of the day and be in the hallway before you open the door, asking what you're doing.
I wasn't aware 10 PM is a horrible time to be out and about but apparently it is.
#7
well if im not mistaken, its ok to smoke off of school property, so i don't see why it wouldn't be allowed :S

I was always under the impression that school rules apply any time you are taking part in a school sponsored activity.
#10
They do apply.
The real question is, why are you still in high school if you're 18? Did you fail a grade or is there an extra year?

most people are 18 at some point senior year...

yeah the rules apply, the real question is why are you smoking spice? If I had the options of smoking spice or nothing I'd honestly choose nothing.
I smoke like Rasta, got hair like pasta

Spice is something very new to me. First time I tried it was actually last weekend. Although there are some differences, I wouldn't say it's too different from a high you get off of bud. yet I already encountered many many feedback on spice that it's crap and whatnot.. is it because people just don't want to risk what's gonna happen to them since they're made of chemicals? or are you guys not getting any high at all?

It's not that I don't wanna risk it, I've done it a few times. It just sucks ass, makes me feel sick and not that great of a high. It gets me high, but it's a bad high. Ya get what I mean?

I assume you'll be allowed to leave the hotel at some point and go shopping or whatever by yourself/with friends. I see no reason why cigarettes could not be smoked in that situation.
#16
On my senior trip the teachers didn't care if students were smoking cirgarettes at the hotel as long as it was in the smoking area. Some teachers even smoked with them

EDIT: Just ask whoever is running the trip.

On one of my school trips we had a mini party in someone's room on the last day until 5 am and the teachers were right next door. Pretty sure they heard us but they didn't care, except when some idiot put pictures up on fb a few days later and he got suspended and had to write an apology letter to the college he got accepted to.

Yes, school rules still apply. But because you're off of school property, teachers are usually even more strict about them. Liability issues and lawsuits, etc.

That said, if you are legally allowed to smoke, I'm sure they won't have a problem with you smoking, in your free time.

Certainly, in our sixth form field trips, those who smoked didn't get into any trouble as long as they did it away from those who didn't.

Smoke the drugs, Ts. Just be confident and act like you would want. I find that school rules are fool's tools. Be cool, and smoke those drugs, Ts. Be confident.

You are EXTREMELY WRONG! I have played it. I own an 18W and it would be an awful stereo amp, it's way too bright, breaks up too easily and so on. Secondly, why would a guitar store sell an hifi amp.

If it's like any of the school trips I go on you should be fine... Then again, I am pretty much a ninja when it comes to smoking.

Just man the **** up and don't do something stupid. We had a dude who drank so much he had to go to a hospital and was in a coma for over a day. It ruined the trip for everyone and the years after it alcohol etc was prohibited. They almost canceled all the trips altogether.

On our school trip to Paris, we stood outside our hotel for ages chatting and smoking with our French teacher.

So, yeah, I think teachers tend to relax quite a lot on trips.

The last school trip I ever went on was to a university over night. We were all 16/17 and we ended up getting very drunk on the night. The funniest thing was the teachers all knew what was happening.
#28
I went to Hawaii on a school sponsored trip, and stayed in a room next to our teacher chaperone. The guys I was staying with and I would go out on the balcony and smoke, and our teacher would sit on his balcony and talk to us. He was cool with it, he knew we were gonna do it regardless of what he said.

As for you, I don't see you not being able to get away for a few minutes for a smoke break.

Good luck.

Is smoking even an issue at school? There was always a group of smokers out front of my high school.

Also, isn't the smoking age in the US 18, too?

I'm not seeing any issues here

I think it's 19.

It might vary between state.

Oh, alright. I've only ever been to New York State, where I was able to buy at 18.

Varying between states makes sense, though.

When our class went on a school trip to Krakow in Poland the teachers didn't really care that we were smoking despite only being 16, they saw us once and later they were all like, "We could have sworn we saw you all smoking earlier but we all know you don't smoke do you? Cos that'd just be silly, it clearly wasn't you though, was it?"

Why America?!?! Why?! Why not just 18 or whatever. If you're legally an adult at 18 then you should be able to do what you want when you turn 18.

I agree. 21 as a drinking age seems very ridiculous to me.

If you're 18 they should have no problem with it. Hell its Las Vegas, you might as well dip from your school and start a new life down there! Then you wont have to worry about school rules!
