Nothing new to me really, one of my favourite bands (plus my avatar is the guitarist of said band) is a J-Rock band which has a lot of "bubblegum pop" style stuff mixed with heavier bits. Plus they aren't shit like the band linked in the OP.

That's just one example of course, they do get heavier...well not anymore, they've gone a lot more J-Pop now, and thus the drummer has left.

How dare you!

Yeah it's not their best song, but it's one of the better examples of them mixing the whole "bubblegum" thing with heavier riffage.

Their videos are always terrible though...

Either way, I still think they're much better than the band originally posted.
Here's an example of how actually good they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqbfYT_YE8s
...the video is reallly bad though...

I don't even find it gay that I think the guitarist is incredibly hot.

So feel free to love them.

Oh, you mean Jpop-metal?

I preferred it when it was more experimental, when they collaborated with Soulfly and made "j-pop-metal-with-world-music-influences" and with Korn, making the oh so hated "nu-j-pop-metal"
Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise

that was actually pretty cool, except i felt the vocals were a bit overpowering

if you listen to a lot of modern j rock/metal, you can tell the melodic sensibilities with asian music is sort of different from modern western rock/metal *the more agressive styles*.

I especially notice that a lot of guitarists in modern western rock/ metal are really doing nothing special at all and they're getting lots of support from guitar companies and the like while they're just rehashing the same old licks, while even in the top 100 charts in japan you hear some really cool guitar with really "fresh" sounding solos and melodies, even shredding... in what are pretty much pop songs!

not that this is so relevent, this jpopmetal song is pretty much just really typical american style angry kid metal + girly japanese dancepop XD
