I have been having problems with my amp lately, to the point where it would not even give a signal. I opened it up and one of the transformers has a big melt line going down both sides of it. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement transformer? It's for a Marshall JVM 205 combo and the original transformer is made by Dagnall electronics if that helps at all

Some transformers aren't real pretty brand new.
Pics of this "melt line"?

Edit:
And if you do need a new transformer, another vote for Mercury Magnetics.
I wanna check them out one of these days. They are about a 45 minute drive from me.

I think you'll find that new transformers are quite expensive. Make sure that's the problem, before you spend a lot of green to order a new one. It may just be varnish from when it was manufactured.

I'm 100% sure that it's the transformer. It's so bad that you can even smell that it's burnt out

no offense but i need to ask the stupid question

you had the ohms matched to your speaker and such and never ran an extension cab, pulled tubes, ran at half power, ran w/attenuator, etc?

ohms are matched, never ran it any other way than the way it was intended

I'm trying to find another dagnall, but no luck so far. Would like to contact marshall, but overseas calls are kind of pricey

Show us some pics, it may not be what you are thinking. It's probably nothing. You don't melt the metal on a transformer before the windings fry. It just doesn't happen. Some trannies ooze goo, it doesn't mean they are fried. The way Marshall have corporatised and cut costs everywhere they can means ugly shit is bound to happen - but "ugly" doesn't mean "not working" or even technically bad, it can just be ugly.

I saw this thread and thought "is it a bugera?"

Another vote for Mercury Magnetics to replace it.
