So the natural sign is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_sign

My guitar teacher said that it only makes the note natural for one bar.
The problem is, that in my "1001 jazz licks" book at lick 174 at page 23, at the second bar, the first note in the bar has a natural sign, however, the lick is in c major.
How is this possible? I have seen it other places too.

Was the note altered in the preceding measure? Sometimes they'll put a natural sign in the next bar just as a reminder that it is natural again.

Yes it was sharp or flat (dont remember) in the bar before.
