Sorry, just another newbie question.

I was screwing around on my guitar, and pulled a little jangly riff of D, a variant of Cadd9, A, then a variant of G. Just for laughs, I want to see if I can take it anywhere, and due to my severe lack of theory, I haven't got the tools.

Can anyone kind of guide me to what key and/or scale this might be in? I appreciate the help.

the key center switches from G to D, but really its in a form of D mixolydian, with the A throwing in an odd C# in there.

Thanks a lot, I get lost in finding these haha.

It is more likely that the progression is just in D major, the Cadd9 acting as a bVII. It's definately not modal.
And no, Guitar Hero will not help. Even on expert. Really.
