Let's say there's two guitarists, one's a girl while the other's a guy.
They're at the same level of skill and each can play whatever the other can.
Would you look at them differently, honestly, because of their gender?

yep I'll check out the girl and not look below the waist of the guy.

Skill is skill, and gender has nothing to do with it. One's gonna be more attractive to me than the other, but it doesn't have anything to do with how well they rip on a guitar.

The only way you could really be fair on that is if you're bi sexual but being me I'd always watch the girl.

If you're asking would people judge their playing ability differently then that's another matter but you've already killed that one because they're both as good as each other. The only real question you are actually asking from what I can tell is are we sexist but then that wouldn't be isolated to the guitar so now what?

That depends, most girl guitarists I've seen tend to want attention,

Unfortunately this seems to be the case much too often. I don't personally know any female guitarists but those who I've seen in the internet usually have their heads way too deep in their arses. I might be a lil' old-fashioned, but that's the way I roll.

If you can assume that both the given guitarists are better than me (which is likely)..

I'd probably be more jealous of the guy. The girl is still better than me in terms of technique, but I would not want to live life without my good friend Rodney Dangerfield.

I remember white zombie had a girl bassist and all the comments on their youtube vids use to be about her until recently.

play with them both for a while individually and see which works out better.

Don't be sleazy. Chicks shouldn't have to put up with sexual harrassment just because they are in band or have every guy trying to bang her.

Skill is only one factor when it comes to a band. There's a good handful of business and image decisions that need to be made when it comes to professionally exposing a group, and even in the most go-nowhere of garage bands you need to like the people you're playing with.

If the guy's a twat, why play with him? Similarly, if you're in a porncore band playing music about sodomizing cats, a girl might not want to get in over her head. Group dynamics have a lot to do with it, and context would be key in determining which person - as an individual, not as a vague interpretation of a gender stereotype - would fit best in the group.

This. I don't know many girls who can play really good. So I would be more impressed with the girl.

If I watch a video on youtube of a girl playing guitar I just imagine it's a guy playing it so I'm not biased. For this reason I'm not a fan of Orianthi, I find her boring.

I remember a few years ago there was a girl on youtube who did alot of steve vai covers that were way beyond her skill level, filled with mistakes and poor vibrato. Yet because she had her breasts sspilling over the top of the guitar and a pretty face the video was rated 5 stars and all the comments fell into one of these categories:

"omg ur sO pretty and amazin at guitar will U mAryy me?"

"u iz well fit wat"

"better than steve vai btw u look stunnin' babe"

I present E-Young.
E-Young covering Malmsteem.
E-young playing piano. (Korsakov at 0:19)

I'm convinced she's crazy. She did a twenty minute bass solo on a talk show. The hosts were actually begging her to stop. Unfortunately 19 of those minutes were cut from the final show.

I got really excited about the title of that first video.

She plays very similar to adrian smith, phrasing wise and vibrato

I'm not TOO big a fan of her, but she is the best girl guitarist of I've seen. (so far).

Yes, get over it.

but seriously, when the girl is focused on the music, and not on being a girl, then gender becomes irrelevant.

I mostly end up looking at how the cutaway on the top of the guitar hits the boob.
Or I'll be jealous at the selector switch of a les paul. :p

well, yes i would because you tend to not see as many girl guitarists, and really good ones are even more rare. anyone who says other wise is probably just trying to seem not sexist. and also as others have said, its attractive. but i like a girl who plays anything really.

I wasn't planning on revealing who it was, but yes.

She's better now, but that video demonstrates my point.

I hate the vibrato too.
That's really something that makes me hate stuff :p.

Granted she does get a bit dull, this is one of my favourites, I actually just love the groove and she kinda wrote the majority of it herself which impressed me and she's in no way a sex symbol, at least not to me. Far to young.
