Tell me about it. Season 5 of The Wire...yadda yadda.

Hey, if they are willing to pay, I'll write. No one else seems to be in the hiring mood.

Brilliant, give the unemployed journalists no option but to work for a pittance feeding bits of information into the corporate machine! Flawless plan of action for high-quality journalism.

I agree with you. Most writers, including myself, are rather shitty. However, this thread is not about the poor writing of freelancers and if they are responsible for the downfall of newspapers, etc.

Anyways, back on topic, anyone else freelance write? Where do you do it?

I think you just completely missed my point. I'm not saying that writers are bad, in fact there's probably more brilliant original writing now than ever. I'm saying that large businesses have deskilled and compartmentalised the profession of journalism in order to keep costs down, with the net effect of producing shite journalism as an end result.

On topic, I contribute articles to a socialist weekly paper in the UK, and I blog.

Any of you guys freelance write?

I've been trying to make some extra cash. For US Citizens, the best site I've found is the yahoo contributor network: http://contributor.yahoo.com/join.html

I've also signed up for textbroker.

Thoughts? Sites?

8/10 would read again.

You have a bright future ahead of you.

How much are you making doing this, TS? I've been looking at going into technical writing and I'm kind of curious at doing this sort of thing for some money while I'm in school.

I want to be a writer, so I may need to check that site out in the near future.

Stay away from any essay-writing companies like the absolute plague. A lot of them fine you (yes, actual fines, docked from your pay) if the customer doesn't like the assignment. For any reason. Any reason at all. It's a scam.

The articles I've read from Yahoo "contributors" are some of the worst written, worst researched, and most poorly thought out anywhere. Hopefully you can be better.

And why is it significant that your father is Jewish?

Wat? These are articles you write for yahoo. They either accept or decline. No fines. Maybe for other companies, but not for YCN.

Ever notice how feminists are such pessimists?

I'm looking for better but YCN pays rather well and is fun as a hobby. Why do you care about my paternal Semitic roots?

What? How is that even relevant?

This is a thread about freelance writing so I know you weren't talking about essay sites but I thought I would drop it in in case someone else suggested it. Good advice to stay away

Arianna Huffington made hundreds of millions of dollars on the backs of unpaid writers. Freelance journalism, even for next-to-nonexistent compensation, is an ugly business.

I don't. I'm just wondering why you would create a UB name like that.
