Hi guys,

i bought what i thought was a Gibson, only to realize it has a bolt on neck. Is it fake? It looks like a les paul in shape, but the truss rod cover is missing so i don't know what model it is.

I'll get pics ASAP, however does anyone have a suggestion as to whether its real?

Gibson's Marauder, L6S, S-1, Sonex and a number of other models had bolt-on necks. The L6S was an all-maple guitar shaped like a Les Paul, but with a flat top. The Sonex was a very similar guitar in appearance.

EDIT: Mistake! The L6S had a set-neck!

I dont wanrt to steal this thread, but i frind of mine have a bolted les paul from gibson. it says gibsons and all, cherry sunburst, two bucker, etc.... but its a bolt on. my friend sais it was from the early 90's, fake or not?

I've seen quite a few gibbo's with a bolt on. As above, marauders, sonex, I think they even did a bolt on nighthawk.

That is indeed a Gibson Marauder.

They were popular in the mid 1970s as an "affordable" Gibson. Not bad guitars at all, and definitely a blast from the past if you're old enough to remember them.

It is a genuine Gibson. Not your typical Gibson, but a made-in-the-U.S.A. Gibson for sure.

I was actually doing a little research on the Marauder earlier today for my Gibson thread haha, here's the bit of info I compiled for it from various sources

"Made between 1974-1979, only one was shipped in 1974. Originally sold for under $400. Available in multiple body woods (Alder, Maple, Mahogany) and rosewood or maple fretboards. Bolt-on 22 fret neck, all had dot markers. All had Bill Lawrence pickups sealed in clear epoxy. Had a slanted single coil at the bridge and a humbucker at the neck."

The pickups were supposed to be the latest in technology at the time but they're nothing special by today's standards. Definitely a good find though and it's an authentic Kalamazoo Gibson. I'd like to find one of these for my collection honestly

she isn't the prettyist, but once you get it set up its a nice guitar, i do need to clean it, but i haven't gotten around to it.. the dirty fingers pickups are pretty good sounding, really high output.

what did you pay for yours?

i payed $150 for one of them and the other i got (the other one is in better condition just coundn't find that ones picture) in a trade for my Egnater Rebel for an Ampeg Lee Jackson VL1002, and the sonex and $50.
