So my vox valvetronix is OK for bedroom rock. Tryin to keep up with drums and a band, this amp gets so muddy than you almost cant even distinguish any chords

so, i need a powerful combo amp that can easily cut through, sounds good, can be suited for metal (ive got a good distortion pedal, so i dont need an amp thats designed to provvide the most ballscrushing superbrutal overdrive ever XD) , and is around a $300-500 price range (canadian) . A reliable type !

any suggestions?

Peavey Ultra.

How many times do I have to suggest this amp? Its under your budget and is a damn good amp.

Peavey Valveking. the Ultra that was suggested would be great but they aren't exactly a dime a dozen so may be toough to find except on ebay.

And so it goes

Just saying a brandname doesn't mean a lot. I just recommended a few Peaveys but I wouldn't allow a Peavey Bandit in my house. Same with Marshall. Some Marshalls are phenomenal and then there's the MG which I wouldn't even let past the front gate.
Forget brand. They all have good and bad. Well, I don't think there are any truly bad Mesas but some are certainly not what you are after. Plus your budget is so small. If you find a Mesa in your pricerange snap it up after you either check in here or get to try it yourself. People recommend the Ultra/XXX/JSX because they come up at the cheap end of the pricerange but up near the top in quality.

They are more than easy to find pretty quick and do what TS asked much better than the Valveking.

not a one to be found in my area and i haven't seen one offered for sale around here in ages. i'm sure they are on ebay but many people (myself included) want to try before they buy. not saying the ultra wouldn't be better just perhaps not as available.

You'll probably have better luck finding a XXX. Same amp basically. The XXX, JSX and Ultra are slight variations of the same thing.

You could check out the Carvin V3Mc, but that might be a bit out of your budget. But it's definately worth it.

Just because the Peavey at your school sucks doesn't mean all Peavey's suck. Are you going to go through life with that attitude? For the record, as mentioned, Mesa and Marshall make products I wouldn't want. Peavey just happens to make a lot of amps in the budget conscious range that are killer.

If I were you I would be all over that Mesa Rockerverb combo. That is a great price. The handle and the reverb can be fixed. Otherwise I'd get that 6505+112. The price for the XXX half stack is way too high, especially if that is the standard Peavey cab. Also look for a used Peavey Vypyr 60. I got mine for $315 and it is pretty sweet.

I would buy a Bugera 6262 or 333XL because I would trust them at this stage and they have warranty.

But you can also buy a 2ndhand Peavey Ultra or even a XXX when you are lucky!

The best would probably be a Mesa .50 caliber or DC5!
