Okay guys, I haven't written one of these ever!

Long story short, my 21st birthday is coming up shortly and my parents want to buy me a special bass to celebrate.

Currently my short list is the following.

1) Wal Mk2 (if I find the right one).
2) Warwick Streamer Stage I
3) Warwick Streamer Stage II.

My thoughts on the instruments follow.

1) I've lusted after a Wal ever since I heard Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Having said that, I'm not positive how much I would use one in my day to day playing (although thinking about it I'd probably use it all the time, put a tiny dent in it and burst into tears).

2) This would be a really good instrument for me. Good slap tone, good fingerstyle, and it looks good. I suspect it would fit into my band really well. However, it's not really that special (in my opinion)

3) I play Eden amps. I'm scared everyone will think I want to be Dirk Lance.

Feel free to check out my band, Miss Terry Blue, and tell me which you think would fit. I want to stand out as a player, and since I do session stuff and a lot of varieties, I'd need a versatile instrument!

Feel free to suggest other basses by the way!

Well, I used to have a complete love of Wals, but it's starting to wane as of recent.

The Streamer Stage I however would totally be my choice (out of this selection).

What do you currently own?

Musicman "StatusRay" Stingray 4 - Carbon Fibre Neck

I remember a time you'd run this by me

Custom Stage I.

DO IT.

YOU NEVER RUN ANYTHING BY ME ANYMORE!

Killerfridge, currently I've got my Warwick Corvette, Fender P, Yamaha John Myung 6 string, and an acoustic bass.

The session player in me says "Get a jazz bass and be done with it", but I say NO!

Streamers is incredible sounding. Carvin, Ritter, and Music Man make fantastic instruments as well.
#7
Have you played them? If not, that's an obvious thing to do. I love the Warwick sound, but they don't feel right in my hands.
#8
I've never played a bass which I didn't feel comfortable with the feel of the neck. Warwick, Musicman, Ritter, Fender, all fine.

The only one I haven't tried here is the Wal. Because no one will let me!

The one Warwick I played felt like a baseball bat and my hands didn't glide well. I'm sure not all models are like that. Ibanez BTB basses are nice as well.

You know the Wal will continue to haunt you if you don't get it.

Out of those my votes for the SS1. But is there anything else out there besides those three that strikes your fancy?

The issue is the Wal is considerably more expensive. At the moment, the best price for the basses is...

Wal - £2500
SS1 - £1050, (or 1299 for a rosewood fretboard and flamed maple version)
SS2 - £1550.

The issue is I love the tones of all of them. Possibly I should pursue this avenue of purchasing.

SS1 now. SS2 with wenge neck as a custom shop in a few years. Wal after that, when I am rich and famous (obviously).

The only other basses I like the sound of is Marleaux. But I'm not a big fan of the shape.

So at the moment, I've pretty much given up on a Wal appearing in the price range I want!

So, the choice for me at the moment is between the Streamer Stage I and Streamer Stage II.

The Streamer Stage II is closer to me, it would be easier to try!

I suspect girls would love me more if I had a Streamer Stage I though.

Streamer LX4 with P/J pickups

Why in shit would any sane person get a LX when they've got the options of a Stage I or II?

My vote's for the Stage II, I'm not big on P/J basses and the II has been on my wish list for a few years now.
Basses:
Fender Precision Bass
Fender Jazz Bass
1967 Fender Coronado Bass II
Warwick Star Bass
Squier Precision Bass TB

As much as I love Warwicks, if Wal Mk2 is an option, i'd go for that. The Wicks are really nice basses, but a Wal is just....a Wal, man.

Between the two Streamers though, i'd choose the Stage I.

You should clearly get a Dingwall.

Interesting - consider the ABZs or the Combustion series. I hear good things.
