Hey guys, I'd like to know what are your thoughts of the classic and legendary JCM 800?

Worth paying USD $ 2300?

I can buy a Mark V and a Rockerverb for this price and I've been hearing bad things about this amp.

Well, let's see what you guys have to say.

No way man, 2300 for just a JCM head is crazy, That much for a JVM head I can kinda see but not for a JCM, if you look hard enough you can get those alot cheaper, and for 2300, there are so many better options. The Rockerverb, or a Triple Rectifer or even a Uberschall head is around that price

I had the same thought.

I would never pay that in this head.

Hell no. You can commonly get a used 2203 for like $800 or less in the US.

EDIT: Truth be told I think $2.3k is an absurdly large amount to be spending on a production amp head. I'd only ever drop that kind of cash for something hand-wired. Used markets are a musician's best friend.

JCM800 for that much? No way, it can't be that much. Even the re-issues are retailing for 1300 euros average here in Europe. Not even a JVM would be that much.. Where did you look for that amp? I see.. MusiciansFriend has it for that much.. But the older, "real" versions as some prefer, they go well under 1000 USD used. I'd say that if you need lots of versatility, then probably Mark V is the one for you, but if you don't, then you might need to look at something else.

^If you travel a lot to US, maybe you could try to find a local dude selling a JCM800/900 and see if you like one. They're definitely more worth the price used than those new re-issues.

Wow thats a rip-off, you can get a custom Splawn for $1700. Or even a Bogner Uberschall for that matter.

For $2300, you could get a Diezel, Engl SE, Soldano SLO, Bogner XTC, etc. Would never pay more than a grand for a JCM 800.

What are you planning on playing through the 2203? The reissues are junk compared to the originals.

There is a 800 combo near me selling for $500 right now. Heads around here usually go for like $700. That is a horrible deal.

Guys, that's why I made this topic.

Paying 2,300 grands on that amp is a waste.

I'm currently planning on buying a Mesa Boogie Mark V. Way better.

Good choice... unless you want the JCM800 sound. For everything else, I'd say you're great with the Mesa.

Decent deal, but you still haven't told us what you play, so whether it'll be good for you or not, we couldn't say.

I play blues, rock and modern rock. But my favorite guitar player of all time is John Petrucci...

Guess Mesa is my best choice, right? lol

if u want a JCM 800 get an old used one. the new ones are overpriced to hell.

and wtf get a mark V

The only real answer to the SG vs Les Paul debate is to get a Flying V and laugh at all the suckers who don't have one.

if you embrace inaccurate intonation it can be quite arousing.

For those genres, I'd kinda rather have the Rockerverb, honestly, but if you want Petrucci's tone, the Mark V is definitely a better way to go.
