You know the type, you hear a band on a promo CD, you buy their new debut, you're thinking 'Wow, this is awesome, these guys are gonna go far!' Then a couple of months later they disband or the label drops them or some such shit.

For me, it was Sanctity. Sounded incredibly great live, then just as they were getting some attention they split.

EDIT: also thinking this thread could be great for telling others of excellent bands that don't exist anymore. So post links if you can be asked.
What is this that stands before me?

I guess, technically, The Jam would count. They pretty much quit at the top of their game.

This is a grey area because it's kinda hard to say when someone 'made it'.

Lucky, I saw them live, and I gotta be honest I was really impressed. Even more so once I listened to Road to Bloodshed.

The Confession. Back when I really liked metalcore I loved their album.

Also Tokyo Dragons. I don't know if they count, because they released two albums, but they were awesome. Some great hard rock.

This, I got into this band through their AC/DC cover, bought their album. Loved it. Then Lead singer quits.

Also, their guitarist is a member here.

ARGONEDIT: I'll try and find the thread.

D: Thats awesome I didn't know that. Really wished they didn't split, they were so good. I generally thought they were going to make it big.

Violent Delight, I guess.

Had one album with what could be considered a reasonably successful single and then broke up
