Hello UG,

I recently noticed that when I mute my guitars strings with my sweater, I can hear a humming noise.
When I touch them with my bare hands or if I touch the bridge while muting with my sweater, the noise isn't there.

I suspect this is a grounding issue?

If so, how to solve it?

Pretty sure that's normal. You're always touching something metal on your guitar while playing, like the strings or bridge, so it shouldn't make any noise when it counts.

I guess you're right, but I don't think guitars are supposed to make noise when you don't?

sometimes you'll get additional noise, when the guitar isnt shielded.
correctly or enough.

when the output jack isnt soldered correctly,
because you've hand tightened the nut

when you're using a cheap cable.

when you're using single coils in certain switch positions.

when you play in a room that has a dimmer, fan, computer, or other outside
interference.
