Does anyone know a good World War II movie? I need one to review for my history assignment. There are a few I cannot choose from:

Letters From Iwo Jima
Enemy at the Gate
Pearl Harbor
A Bridge Too Far
Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Run Silent Run Deep
Valkyrie
The Longest Day
Saving Private Ryan

Any other movie would be good.

Lastly, if anyone has seen episodes of Band of Brothers, is the series good? I'm allowed to use 2 consecutive episodes of that show if I want to instead of a movie.

Thanks.

Band of Brothers is amazing, but not as amazing as Letters from Iwo Jima. You can also watch Flags of our Fathers which is the prequel to Letters from Iwo Jima and it's from the American perspective.

Band of Brothers is pants-shittingly awesome.

Check with your teacher first, but you could try to do a mock report on the history and events of a post-Hitler Inglorious Basterds universe.

Flags of Our Fathers is supposedly pretty good.

So I'll choose between that, or 2 episodes of Band of Brothers...

I'm not going to stop you, but Letters from Iwo Jima is considered one of the best WWII movies ever made and better than Flags of our Fathers, but FooF is still a Clint Eastwood film which the teacher should give you an automatic A for the sake of Clint Eastwood.

Band of Brothers is incredible. The Bastogne and Market Garden episodes are the best imo.

Defiance, Downfall, Tora Tora Tora. The Pianist and Schindler's List sort of. I did Enemy at the Gates for my history assignment.

The assignment is:

To complete a movie review set during or is about WWII
Each student will complete a clear and concise review of the material watched (not a summary)
You must assess how accurate/effective the film was as a portrayal of the time period

So far I'm considering Flags of Our fathers and Band of Brothers, maybe Inglorious Basterds.

And Horsedick, Iwo Jima is one of the ones I cannot do. ):

Geh, why not?

Does anyone know anything about Sands of Iwo Jima? Anything to do with Letters From Iwo Jima?

No, it's a 1949 movie with John Wayne being a marine, which should be badass.

Horsedick: I can't do it because in my class only 2 people can pick the same movie. I figured it would be smarter to wait until the next day to decide on a movie, after consulting the Pit, which is obviously always a great idea and never fails.

Iron Cross is awesome. Battle of the Buldge. A Bridge Too Far. Battle of Britain is a personal fave.

Schindler's List, my friend. You can write ridiculous amounts of crap about that film.
I want to read your essays and blogs of the artistic nature!

Woah, a list. That looks pretty legit. I shall choose Patton because it is number 2. And if that doesm't work then I shall choose The Bridge Over the River Kwai or The Great Escape. Thanks Pit.

And since you went through all this work for me Horsedick, you have won my Internet for 5 minutes. Do not waste it.

Band Of Brothers is one of the best WWII related pieces of media i have ever seen, and i cannot recommend it enough, i hear The Pacific is good too. The book of BOB is really good too, but Stephen E. Ambrose books are relatively heavy on military jargon, so don't expect to get thrust into the action straight away.

Other things to consider:
The Pianist
Dunkirk (it was a short docudrama on BBC with a twist, it is hard to explain really)
The Longest Day (it is a pretty old movie about D-day, so it is fairly gung-ho, but i think it covers most of the aspects of it, although i don't know, i have never watched it properly)
WHOMP

Think of that next time you are not allowed to laugh.

Do Inglorious Basterds and act like its based on an entirely true story.

Seriously though, out of that list, go for Iwo Jiima. Also +1 for Das Boot.
