I've recently discovered (or rediscovered) several tracks by bands that I really like, that are not something that is characteristic of the genre they are known for playing most. Examples include Into the Dead Sky by At the Gates and The Jester's Dance by In Flames. Anyone else out there have a few oddball songs like this they'd care to mention? It needs not be metal, that's just what I know and happen to bump into most often.

Hyperlinks are neat:

Death Throes of the Terrorsquid by Alestorm. It's actually pretty intense near the end.

Nightmare plays a variety of genres, but the one thing that gets me are their songs with brass instruments.
Songs like dasei boogie, masquerade, and the last show.

Nice! I haven't listened all the way through this album yet. I did not see the death vocals coming.

Miley Cyrus - Smells like teen spirit.

On playing the Paul Gilbert signature at the guitar store extensively, my missus sighed:
"Put it down now, It's like you love that guitar more than me!"
In Which I replied.
"Well it has got two F-Holes!"

I find this more uncharacteristic:

Although I don't know that much stuff from the band

Yeah, they're both very uncharacteristic for Biffy, considering I'm used to their earlier stuff Although, there's Christopher's River on the first album but even that goes into a distorted breakdown.

Listen to the whole Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion album by Eluveitie.

I kinda dig it.

Firefly - Breaking Benjamin
It's not that uncharacteristic but I never found anything else of theirs quite like it.

Whatever - Our Lady Peace
omgomgomg I love this song.

The Northern by Alexisonfire is a fucking awesome song, and the only one I actually like by them.

Disciples of Babylon by Dragonforce breaks down into an extended acoustic/piano part for a while. Then it goes into this jazzy sort of thing and ends with a weird solo to lead back into the pre-chorus.

I wouldn't say it's extremely different from their other stuff, but compared to their other heavy-ish stuff, it is a bit different.

Also, another I thought of - Muse - Assassin (Grand Omega Bosses Edit)

Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Vermillion pt. 2 - Slipknot

Lots more, just can't think of them right now.

I don't even like In Flames, but this song is very much unlike the rest of their material.

Metaphor - In Flames

Actually one of my favourite songs by them.

For me, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OCBWPQswNo off their new album. Used to hate it as it was too different, but now I love it.

Also quite liked Unforgiven III off Death Magnetic, as much as it sounded quite out of place on the album

Box up my bones - cynic. The bands I listen to don't have particular styles to the point where a so.g would sound noticeable different to me. Like sure bike doesn't sound like another brick on the wall. Or here cones the sun king doesn't sound like here comes the sun. Or mirrors doesn't sound like obsfucation.

Porcupine Tree's "Shallow" is pretty different from what they usually do (much simpler and more straightforward), yet I find it rather good. Kind of a "How Porcupine Tree would've been if they were just a generic modern rock band", and yet it's better than most generic modern rock bands, I think.

I normally hate Slipknot, but they have a tune called Snuff that gets a good amount of radio play that I enjoy. That being said, if they got rid of that nasty sounding guitar riff and tuned their axes up a few semitones it would be a pretty good song.
I pride myself on my humility.

you mean that guitar line with the gross-ass distortion and leslie on it?

I hate that fucking song for one reason only:
