I recently purchased a used les paul. i can't find a serial number, nobody at gibson customer service knows diddly squat about it. (even though it came with a bunch of paperwork).

this guitar's just full of itself with the paperwork.

Interesting guitar. I bought used with the case and all the ppwk from a local store. I think it's from the exclusive run Sam Ash did in the past few years. There is no serial number, everything just says "Proto #2".

It plays great and sounds better than it plays.

She weighs in at a healthy 9 pounds 0 ounces on the girlfriend's bathroom scale.

Fit and Finish: fine by me, it's well made. i can't find any finish flaws. it has a couple dings, it's used i would expect that.

Tone: it sounds like a les paul. like a fat assed woody badass really. the neck pup is devoid of mudd, the bridge screams hurt me and the middle spot set to clean is beautiful. i may just not change anything on it.

Case: why not review a case. it's secksie. it has the nice purple plush interior that she's resting in right now. gold latches, i wish it was tweed though.

i really love those markers. the old guitars had red ones like that. i'm a fan.

Just think of how many Agile's you could've bought instead.

Gibson > Agile.
I know, I know... personal opinion and such...

Congrats for getting a really gorgeous guitar!

Either a special run for a retailer or a NAMM thing. I've seen a lot of Gibbys/Fenders that where only made for NAMM shows with PROTO "x" serials. In any case, killer axe! HNGD

I feel like you're trolling the serial number part...

That's a pretty lookin' guitar you got there, though! Don't pull a Tom, that one might actually be worth some moneyz in a few years.

HNGD!

thanks everyone.

this is a keeper, it's not going anywhere.

all the documentation states "proto #2" in the blank next to serial number.
look at the pic with the paperwork, everything says that.

i don't even know what year it was made, i'd have to pull the pots out and check the codes.

That's not the kind of trolling I was talking about, I meant like... because it had no serial number you and the store had NO idea, even though it had all the papers.

It seemed more logical the first time I thought it up...

i did say it like that, but funny enough, it's true. i'll have to email gibson pics to really find anything out.

hey greg does it have the cs stamp on the back of the neck?

it doesn't, but neither do the rest of the RX guitars. they just the usual re-issue type serial number. this one doesn't even have that.

nope.

i let 2 guitars go, they were both very nice and worth more than this cost. i just didn't need 2 guitars to try to get the tone this one gets.

it was addition by subtraction.

and it's not FS/FT.

For the next 2 months, yea. Also, it doesn't have a Spruce top and F holes.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Wow, I usually hate Les Pauls. But that thing is awesome. Not sure why.

I usually hate all black guitars. Well this is actually ebony but....

As soon as I tested it, it was over. I was like, "check please!"
