Hi.

First, before anyone has a go at me for having another What Amp thread, my circumstances have changed yet again and I don't want to bump stuff from months ago.

I'm still looking for a new amp, as you've probably gathered. I play metal (Mastodon, BFMV, Metallica, Megadeth, Trivium etc) and modern rock (Foos and Muse). I need clean tones and I like tight but thick distortion without a stupidly scooped midrange. By the time I buy the amp I will have an Ibanez S420 and a few MXR pedals (a gate, a phase 90 and a chorus for the cleans).

Which do you guys think would be better for me: a Blackstar HT-50 head or should I save £150 more and get an Orange TH30? Could I just get a Dark Terror and use my Vox VT40 for clean tones?

Thanks,
Rob

And isn't the Dark Terror just the dirt channel of the TH30?

no, the dark terror is just a dual terror channel with boost function. AFAIK, i hated it, same for the tiny terror / dual terror!

just get the th30 its really worth it

Check out a Peavey 6534+. It'll give you amazing tones for the heavy stuff you want, as well as decent crunch and clean tones. The other amps you're looking at are pretty limited in versatility, unless you like dialing knobs every time you want to play something different (I personally do not).
