Since no one seams to agree on UG, i think this thread is justified.
Are you a ''its the amp'' type of guy, or the kind of people that believes the material of the screw of the tunner button imports?

Personaly, i believe its wood>pickup>amp>speaker.
For acoustics, more something like pick>string>wood.

For acoustics, the tone is in the wood and the fingers. Acoustics made with shitty wood can sound better when played by an expert, but it's still going to sound like a shitty acoustic. And an expert playing a fantastic acoustic is going to be just pure sexiness.

For electrics, it's in the wood, the pickups, and the amp, and the fingers are still super important, too.

I don't really hear much of a difference in strings, unless they're completely dead. But having strings that feel right is still preferable.

Personally I feel it's like this:

Guitarist>Pick-ups>Amp>Wood>Speakers
And for acoustics I'd put it as guitarist>wood>strings

Amp>speaker>pickup/wood balance

Amp by far is more important for your overall sound, since the amp is what colors the guitar's tone the most.
