I work at the local Guitar Center. I just wanted to give everyone the heads up on a pretty cool initiative from Guitar Center. We've launched a "Social Network" type page for each store and its employees. Just to give everyone an idea of what music and, lets face what tone, each person at the store is into! I strongly encourage you to check out your local store's profiles. Should be cool to see how this all fairs out!

By the way, here's mine....

You guys can also email me directly from the page. I think it's pretty cool especially since I've developed some friends through UG and other forums. Now they can contact me direct about any gear questions.

Social networking blows also tell your employers they are about 5 years late on this trend.

I'd honestly fap to anything with a set of genitals as long as I find it aesthetically appealing.

To each is their own. Obviously there is a lot of people to utilize social networking so it is appealing to a lot of people. I also don't know many companies that have something like this set up, much less something like this in 2006.

It seems cool that you can check out who would have similar interests musically and tonally though, so when you go into the store you can just waltz right up to whoever you picked and tell him to help you the **** out.

That's the goal. You can walk in there and talk to someone you know has a similar ear as you. I know when I was a customer it took some switching between guys to figure out who actually knew what sound i wanted, and what i needed to get it...

Now I can avoid the metal dude pushing line6 spiders all the time! This actually seems pretty cool.

Though every mention of guitar center now reminds me of Daddy's Junky Music's demise.
For Frodo!

A) If you don't like social networking, don't use it(unless you really think stuff you don't like shouldn't exist)

B) Who cares if anyone is late on a trend? You're too good for social networks but insist on being trendy? GTFO

I think this is an interesting idea. For those that really like facebook it will be nice. Especially if they want to try out gear in a GC they'll know who to ask for.

But personally I think there's too many business promotional things going on in facebook. Especially when it comes to bands. Probably because those sorts of things killed myspace and are looking for a new place to promote. I don't even list bands, movies and tv shows I like on FB anymore because of the spam active bands and shows do. I just list my Last FM. heh.

Bands do spam, but there have been times where they've put up a sale on their merch or something and I've jumped on it. Plus they post music from other good bands a lot as well, certainly broadens your collection.

i found out that the guy i buy strings and other accessories from has an engineering degree from Yale and worked for NASA, but now he's working at Guitar Center.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

Degrees and experience doesn't guarantee job security in the relevant fields. Welcome to the shit economy. Now you know why some people are at OWS movements.

This is a pretty neat idea. I'm not too big on social networking sites (too much crap gets posted for my taste), but I like the idea of getting to know someone a bit better before asking for their help on music equipment.

I hate going to a store and asking some old guy who knows less than I do.
Oh f*ck it,
I'm gonna have a party.
I had the blankest year,
I watched life turn into a TV show.
It was totally weird.

I love you =] I can't say I was very fond of you when we first started talking because you trolled the hell out of my threads, but after talking to you here I've grown very attached to you.

Yeah, write to my fanclub about it, honey.

Given the number of people who lost jobs after the space program shut down since there is, as of yet, no completed replacement, I'm going to go ahead and guess he's a hobby guitarist for years while he worked at NASA, and that's just a temporary thing so he's not unemployed while he looks for something bigger.
